The Pip-Boy icon is identical to that of the xander root. The plant in which the sacred datura root is picked appears as a rather small green bush blossoming with white flowers, which look similar to morning glory flowers. Although it is easily able to be seen as a poison to the player, it can still be consumed as if it was food. Doing this will lead to poison effects similar to those of the Mojave Wasteland poison, such as that of cazadores/nightstalkers etc.; however, it can only be cured by the datura antivenom, as the antivenom from the Mojave has no effect on this type of poison. During the quest Rite of Passage, it is shown that the sacred datura root can be used to create a bitter tasting tea with rather severe hallucinogenic effects. The only known person to be able to create this tea is White Bird of the Sorrows tribe.
Datura has, in many cultures, been used for both its hallucinogenic and its toxic properties for many centuries. It is very dangerous to ingest, and people have died taking it for a "high". The plant is technically a deliriant, not a hallucinogen.
