The ruined farmhouse is a farm west of Washington, D.C. in Virginia. This farm is on the major road linking Springvale to the Super-Duper Mart. The closest settlement is Megaton to the west and to the south-east of this farm, there is a water tower.

Two centuries after the Great War, the Enclave arrive and establish a camp at this farmhouse. The camp has a few Enclave soldiers and a scientist. This scientist is recording field observations on the local wildlife into a research terminal. There are entries on the bloatfly, brahmin, and giant ant.

This farmstead consists of a two-story farmhouse, a windmill, and a silo. The farmhouse faces north-east towards Bethesda, Maryland. Across from the farmhouse's entrance, there is a windmill. Behind the farmhouse, there is an intact silo. Inside the farmhouse is an ammunition box.

The area is initially deserted save for the occasional wasteland creature. However, a random encounter can be triggered here, which may add a regular presence depending on the encounter. Much later, after the quest "The Waters of Life", a strong Enclave presence will be felt here.

Notable lootEdit

  • The area around the farmhouse contains the spawn points for a 'Type B' random encounter. It is most easily triggered by following the road out of Springvale past the house. The encounter will spawn on the road where it bends around the rocks.
  • With the Broken Steel add-on installed a respawning Enclave soldier will appear on the road after first visiting the area. Later, after the Waters of Life quest, a full Enclave outpost will appear here as well.
  • The caravan merchant trade route follows the road directly through this area. The Enclave presence and a hostile random encounter can pose a significant threat to any safe passage here, and care should be taken not to linger nearby if one does not wish to risk a caravan's death.

The ruined farmhouse appears only in Fallout 3.
