Prototype Medic Power Armor
From The Vault

The MP-47/A Prototype Medic Power Armor is a U.S. Army variant of T-45d Power Armor. It was designed to administer medical attention to the user as necessary during combat. Notably, it is the only armor capable of speech.

[edit] Specifications
The Prototype Medic Power Armor has the ability to administer Med-X, the game's version of morphine, which it will do if the player's health drops below 33% or if a limb's health drops below 25%. Unlike standard Med-X injections, this process carries no risk of addiction. However, it does draw from the player's supply of Med-X, and thus the feature is useless if the player has none. Its outward appearance is nearly identical to T-45d Power Armor series.
In addition to the Med-X dispensing system, the armor features an on board voice that resembles Mister Gutsy in terms of sound and personality. The voice, similar to a follower, will sound alerts if it detects an enemy presence.
As noted in the accompanying manual, the prototype version of the suit lacks the ability to dispense anything other than Med-X, where as the completed version (which doesn't exist) would have had a wider range of features. The armor was planned as an automatic medical supply dispenser, meaning troops would not have to be evacuated for medical treatment. The user manual found with the armor details that the final version was to also include a lethal chemical that could be triggered by a superior officer if the soldier deserted.
Note that even though the user manual for the armor asserts that "even a child could use it", the player must still be trained in the use of power armor to make use of the suit.
[edit] Notes
- Med-X administered by the suit is registered differently from Med-X that is administered normally. If you look at the Effects page in your Pip-Boy 3000, it will read "Suit Med-X - Ignore Neg Eff +1, Dam. Res. +25." The extra effect of the suit's Med-X ("Ignore Neg Eff +1") negates the effects of crippled limbs (i.e. if you get a crippled leg, the suit's Med-X will prevent you from limping). You can also co-administer Med-X the normal way, which will be listed separately (but concurrently) as "Med-X - Dam. Res. +25," This allows one to receive a total of +50 damage resistance from Med-X.
- The T-51b Power Armor cannot be repaired by this armor. This armor, however, can be repaired by the T-51b, so be careful not to make that mistake.
- This armor can be repaired with all other Power Armor variations, excluding Enclave and Tesla variants.
- This armor can be very helpful in battle as it will always shout out phrases such as "Let em eat lead!", alerting you of any danger. In some cases, its perception may be better than your own, and it can spot enemies coming from any direction.
- Even though the armor will alert you of any danger, nearby foes will be able to hear the shouting and will become alert to your presence. This makes it a very poor choice when trying to take a stealthy approach.
- Despite its unique technological value, the armor cannot be given to the Brotherhood Outcasts.
- This armor doesn't come with a helmet, probably because it was still in Prototype phase and was used with basic T-45d Power Armor Helmet.
- If you talk to one of the BOS at the Citadel, they will say how they did not send anyone in to retrieve the armor because of the surrounding Deathclaws. (Confirmed PS3)
[edit] Quotes
- "It's time to kick some ass!" -When detecting an enemy
- "Gear up soldier!" -When detecting an enemy
- "Let'em eat lead!" -When detecting an enemy
- "Medic Power Armor reporting for duty, sir/madam!" -When equipped, second time or later
- "It's just pain soldier. Take some of this and tough it out." -When administering Suit Med-X
- "Pansy! Take a shot of vitamin M and keep fighting!" -When administering Suit Med-X
- "You're a soldier, not a civie! Have some juice and suck it up!" -When administering Suit Med-X
- "Listen up you god-damn puke! You are wearing Prototype Medic Power Armor. You take care of me and I'll take care of you." - When equipped for the first time.
"Vitamin M" (with quotes) is common slang for morphine. Additionally, "Vitamin M" is a common, albeit humorous, term to refer to Ibuprophen (Motrin), as it is the most common drug distributed to the US Armed Forces world-wide.
[edit] Acquisition
Approaching Old Olney from the top right on your map in your Pip-boy you will see a muncipal/church building, be careful when trying to obtain this armor as Old Olney is full of deathclaws. To right of this building is an entrance into Old Olney; near the front right is a grate that will collapse when stood upon. This is one of the two entrances into the Old Olney Sewers. Take note that is only an entrance, it is impossible to get out of the pit you fall into other than fast travelling away. From this entrance point, the Sewers are a very linear progression, you will go into maintenance room with a Protectron. Grab the employee ID near the skeleton and once activated the Protectron will accept you as a valid employee. You exit into a downward sloped shaft, make a right. To the left is the exit ladder. Continue until you come to a door on your right. Behind this door is the initiate and several other bodies. Also in the sewers in a nearby room .44 magnum rounds, a mini-nuke and a Fat Man can be found.
[edit] Behind the scenes
- The armor may be influenced by the Hazardous EnVironmental Suit (HEV) from the Half-Life series, in which Gordon Freeman's suit is known to also vocalize the player's current health status, as well as administer medicine at appropriate times.
[edit] Bugs
- If the PMPA is broken, attempting to equip it and then exiting Pip-Boy still initializes aforementioned quote regarding equipping the armor.
- The armor may disappear if you enter the sewers but do not collect the armor while inside (Confirmed 360, PC). The armor still remains in the PS3 (Confirmed) version but may disappear on game of the year version, if you have completed broken steel or retrieved the tesla coil. (uncomfirmed)
- It is possible for this armor to 'disappear' if dropped in The Pitt, but while invisible it can still be interacted with.
- The Prototype Medic Power Armor is likely misplaced with the T-51b Power Armor. The prototype armor is called MS14PowerArmorMorphine in the G.E.C.K., and MS14 is the ID for "You Gotta Shoot Em in the Head!", despite not actually being a part of said quest.
[edit] Appearances
It appears only in Fallout 3 on a dead Brotherhood of Steel Initiate in Old Olney Sewers.
