Wasteland Warfare preorder open
By Ramallah

Not sure if it was mentioned here (I'm sure Agent C mentioned it in a news post) but in late April Geek & Sundry announced Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, “the first tabletop miniatures game based on the Fallout universe”.

For those just hearing about this here is the official description:

"In Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, players build their own crew from a wide range of factions, allies, and iconic characters from the Fallout series, then play in apocalyptic games of 3-30 high-quality 32mm scale resin miniatures through a huge variety of iconic scenery and settlement buildings, from the Red Rocket to Sanctuary Hills, Nuka-Cola vending machines and wrecked vehicles. Settlements include buildings, defenses, and resources that impact the crew's army list and abilities in the wasteland.

The Video Matter is resolvedEdit

Video Accord adopted

The Meeting discussed the deal that C had proposed, and was accepted by Wikia (T/a Fandom), the terms were as follows:

  • A Moritorium on any Wikia/Fandom made video being added for 6 months
  • We will create a video policy for articles in line with current article guidelines. This will include appointment of a 3 member “Video Board” to advise on application of the guidelines, and provide post production scrutiny.
  • After 6 months if Wikia/Fandom can demonstrate a test video which upholds our strictest guidelines the community will be asked to vote on whether allowing Wikia/Fandom to post further video without pre-consent should be permitted. We’ll also debate including use of the Nukapedia Branding.
  • If pre-consent is not given, these videos may be submitted to the video board for pre-posting approval, in line with the process for community made video that will be created.
  • In the meantime if our community teams produce a video that meets those guidelines the video board submit it to Wikia/Fandom for inclusion on articles through the platform.
  • We would recommend to community teams their target list should be the top 10 most visited pages.
  • If pre-consent is given Wikia/Fandom will advise the Video board where/when they input video, so that they can be reviewed after posting. The Video board may insist on revision, removal pending these revisions, or where a video cannot be revised such that it can meet our guidelines, permanent removal.
  • Persistent violations of policy will see Wikia’s/Fandom’s permission to post further video (and use of the Nukapedia branding) suspended until such time as the confidence of the community in these videos can be re-established.

It was proposed that the deal with Wikia be accepted, but the Exodus platform should be retained in to allow for further content and features that cannot be delivered on the wikia platform or as part of the main wiki, and to serve as an option should the community ever feel there was a need to move from the Wikia platform. 14 in favour, 5 opposing.

With Quorum established, and the majority large, the motion was carried.

Video Re-Negociation Positioning thread

It is clear from the community vote on the negotiated settlement with Wikia/Fandom that the community is not satisfied with what is offered.

As such, I would like to now ask the community where our red line is, and if the community is happy for me to continue in this role.

As we seem to be getting a great and speedy response, I only anticipate this being open for 72 hours. If no single option has overwhelming support on its own, where an option includes another option votes will be read as being inclusive in there. Okay, I think its clear that going ahead with a meeting is a good idea. At this stage I would like to open the floor to agenda items. We have the following things to discuss.

  • An update on any negotiations, and other actions
  • Possible action to progress our case further whilst staying on network
  • Possible engagement with Wikia on video in line with the proposed deal- if we should participate and whom that contact person should be.
  • Possible alternatives if the situation cannot be resolved.

Please let me know if you want anything added to the agenda below.

I'll be asking a number of people to speak on certain issues, but as always there will be plenty of room for discussion.

I propose that the meeting be held at 3pm North American Eastern Time on Sunday 24 September, this should be 8pm in London, 9pm Central European time, and Midday North American Western. If there are any objections please note them below and we'll look into alternative scheduling, the more objections the harder we look for a new time.

We have arranged facilities for the meeting, it will be held online. It is open to all persons who have participated in any of the video discussion threads up to today, except those employed by Fandom/Wikia inc (as this is the Community's meeting), or have been employed by them in the recent past.

Votes taken in this meeting will be taken as consensus view of the wiki, so everyone is encouraged to attend.

We have setup a discord server (Nukapedia's Fallout Shelter) located here. It is mobile friendly (via an app) and is very flexible.

Although everyone is welcome in our social space (The-Common-Room), only persons who meet the above criteria will be admitted to The-Town-Hall (where the meeting will be located). You may be asked to verify your account before this access is granted. Agent c (talk) 21:05, September 11, 2017 (UTC)

Video Settlement proposal
By Agent_c

I have negotiated with Jen Burton @ Wikia/Fandom the following settlement for dealing with Fandom-Made video for the wiki. I bring it to the community for your consideration.

  • Video remains for now, but proposed replacements will be considered (small groups or individually written scripts, not a full collaborative wikiwide process).
  • We can propose new additional videos (again small groups or individually written scripts, not a full collaborative wikiwide process).
  • Fandom may post more videos, but the replacement process could be used
  • A single appointed person would have the opportunity to comment on scripts 24hrs or so before production. This person would be appointed following this agreement being adopted.

In the meantime, whilst this vote is running, Fandom may post more video.

Petition to protest forced addition of poor quality video to this wiki
By Agent_c

When video was first proposed by wikia I was personally sceptical but did see some positive opportunity. Now that it has landed although I think what has been produced has some salvage value, the consensus position seems to be as implemented what has been produced is not acceptable to the wiki community.

To recap, for those who have not seen it Ballistic weave, Cait, Curie, Fallout 4 weapons, and Piper Wright are the pages now with video. We have been collating feedback Here.

We were told that when this was proposed (ie- that we were told that this was being forced on us) we would have 24 hours to look at a proposed script. This never happened. We were told that if the quality was at a level where we'd feel we needed to veto it, they'd consider it a failure. It is therefore, by Wikia's own definitions a failure.

The response from Wikia/Fandom so far has been lackluster. Given the outrage that was expressed in the above linked forum, I reached on behalf of and speaking for the community asking what they intend to do about it. The response I received is below. As tempted as I am to paraphrase and editorialise a shorter version, in the interest of fairness I will not.

To that end. I am seeking a mandate from the community to confirm that this is indeed the consensus position - that the videos that have been added are not acceptable, breach our editorial guidelines, and should be removed at least until an alternative can be produced.

PS4 mods and 4K is coming
By Paladin117

Some news from Bethesda. They are releasing mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition afterall. They are also adding in support for the PlayStation 4 Pro while they're at it. There are two catches however. First, Fallout 4 mods are coming after Skyrim's release, which will include mods at launch. Second, you can not use any external assets with PS4 mods, only the game's native assets. So, no new 3D models or textures are coming.

Some big news from InXile. Wasteland, the series that lead to the development of Fallout will be getting a third instalment.

Much like the second instalment and other InXile productions, Wasteland 3 will be crowdfunded to begin with, however this time there's the promise of more - the possibility to get more than just rewards, but a possible share of the profits.

The planned ask this time is $2.75 Million, you may remember Wasteland 2 raised in total just under $3 Million so the goal is ambitious.

We'll know more October 5th, when the title is officially announced 8am Pacific (11am EST, 5pm CET).

ModsNoPS4Edit

Mods are not coming to PS4 (for now)
By Agent_c

Bethesda has released the following statement on PS4 mods today

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.

Statement

It seems that this is the closed book on PS4 mods for now, the problem being down to Sony wanting to control, or exclude certain content rather than any technical issue.

This also appears to close the book on Skyrim Special edition, and I would not be suprised if this will effect Bethesda's consideration of which formats Fallout 4 VR might appear on.

OculusEdit

Zenimax v Oculus, Facebook and John Carmack
By Agent_c

Some suprising news is emerging from the court case brought by Zenimax against Occulus. They’ve expanded their case so its not just targeted at the arm of Facebook, but they’re also suing the founder of Oculus (Palmer Luckey), their CEO (Brendan Iribe) and former head of ID and former Zenimax employee John Carmack, accusing the latter of being a thief.

At this point you might be thinking what does that have to do with Bethesda? Well, you might remember back at the BE3 conference Fallout 4 VR and Doom VR were announced for the HTC Vive, rather than Oculus. This lawsuit is why - Bethesda is a Zenimax company. But that still make you wonder what Zenimax have to do with the development of the Oculus, and why they’re suing. Well, according to Zenimax’s submission, the short answer is: everything.

Help on this pageEdit

Template documentation (for the template shown above, sometimes hidden or invisible)

This page is the "Archive" page for the headline section of the Live news Page.

For the Headline section only the MOST RECENT story should be in the transcluded section - it wont break if you include two, but the second really should be added to the most relevant non headline section instead.

It is recommended that old headlines be left here for archive purposes.

USING THIS PAGEEdit

OrganisationEdit

Firstly, you should use a H2 headline before your article, just for organisational purposes.

If for some reason you've decided to ignore the advice to use only one article at a time, you should surround the headline with "NoInclude" tags to stop it being pulled through the transclusion.

Eg:

<noinclude> ==Headline== </noinclude>

Pulling an articleEdit

This presumes you're pulling only a single article, as recommended. If you're trying to pull multiple ones, leave off the <section end="LiveNewsPage" /> until the end of the last article, and do not place a second <section begin="LiveNewsPage" /> tag.

Headline onlyEdit

This version only presents the Green Headline.
