The Vault: Fallout 3 portal

Welcome to The Vault's portal dedicated to Fallout 3!

Fallout 3 is a post-apocalyptic computer and console role-playing game that has been developed and published by Bethesda Softworks as a sequel to Interplay's Fallout and Fallout 2.

The game takes place in the year 2277 on the East Coast of what used to be the United States of America, mostly in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. The gameplay features include real-time combat and first or third person perspective, in contrast to the previous games, which were turn-based and isometric.

Article of the day
Moira Brown

Moira Brown is an eccentric inhabitant of Megaton, a town in Fallout 3, and the owner of the Craterside Supply store, also in Megaton. She wants the Lone Wanderer to help her research a guide to the wastelands that she is writing, as well as scout a nearby Super Duper Mart for food and medicine.

Moira's personality is extremely cheerful at all times, often excessively so; she takes as much delight in talking about what she's doing as possible. She remains inappropriately cheerful in even the most serious of circumstances.

Fallout world
The Fallout world is not quite our own. It is an alternate reality which diverged from ours at some point after the second World War.

The base concept for the setting is the World of Tomorrow as imagined in the Golden Age of Science Fiction. This means that before the Great War, the Fallout world was more or less what the people of the 1940s and 1950s thought things would be like in 2077.

But history after the second World War is not the only difference; the Fallout universe is also fundamentally different in terms of how science works (see Divergence).

The most important event in the Fallout setting was the Great War which happened on October 23, 2077. It lasted a mere two hours, but was unbelievably destructive and changed the world for centuries to come.
