Plasma pistols are high-tech weapons firing superheated bolts of plasma, powered by small energy cells, energy cells or plasma cartridges.

Models[]

Plasma pistol (Fallout 1/2/Tactics)[]

A European design, the Glock 86 was designed before the Great War by an artificial intelligence named after Gaston Glock, the company's founder and most influential engineer. It is a large energy handgun, shooting a small bolt of superheated plasma generated in its magnetic housing chamber, using an internal power cell rechargeable with small energy cells. The chamber can be realigned to reduce drain on the internal energy cell and double capacity.[1] Accuracy at range is improved by the inclusion of a scope, mounted above the housing chamber.[2]

Plasma Defender (New Vegas)[]

The Plasma Defender is a pistol with a high rate of fire and small spread. The pistol uses small energy cells with a capacity of 32 rounds. The weapon is bulkier and features slide like serrations in the back, and versions exist that can be modified with a scope, sheath stabilizer, and high-capacity terminal.[3]

Plasma pistol (Fallout 3/New Vegas)[]

PlasmaPistol

This plasma pistol has five tributary energy arcs connected to a central cathode, and the cathode functions as a point of focus, or the barrel. The energy is projected forward and forms a plasma pinch; though rather slow, the pinch carries high levels of both thermal and kinetic energy.

Plasma gun (Fallout 4/76)[]

This plasma weapon is similar in appearance to previous games, though it differs highly in functionality. It is highly modular, being available in pistol, rifle, scattergun, sniper and flamethrower configurations. Unlike other plasma weapons, it utilizes plasma cartridges for ammunition.

Behind the scenes[]

Glock pistols are named sequentially, in the order they were submitted for patent protection. Glock 17 was the first sidearm produced by the company, but the 17th patent, thus the name. As such, the Glock 86 suggests there were at least 86 patented products produced by the company by the time the 86 was introduced. As of 2024, the latest pistol is the Glock 49.
