Paulson's revolver is a .44 magnum revolver that functions differently than the scoped .44 magnum, firing a group of shots at once. It also lacks a scope, making it the only non-scoped .44 magnum revolver available to the player without the use of console commands. It is similar to the Mysterious Stranger's .44 magnum with the exception of firing multiple projectiles at one time. The revolver shoots 9 pellets with one round. Outside of V.A.T.S., this gun will get devastating critical hits quite frequently. Unlike the scoped .44 magnum, this has a shield around the rear section of the cylinder. It is repaired with any (including unique) scoped .44 magnums.
Blackhawk - While it's much stronger than the regular .44, it is also the weakest of the unique versions. However, it is the best version in the original game with no add-ons.
Callahan's magnumBroken Steel- Named after famous gunfighter and security officer Harold Callahan, and a 'nod' to the famous and infamous "Dirty Harry" Clint Eastwood's movie character who took on all the 'dirty' police jobs - as SF Inspector Harry Callahan. This Callahan's magnum is the more effective version of Blackhawk, dealing more damage with less wear and tear.
Wernher's scoped .44 magnumThe Pitt (add-on) - An unobtainable version of the scoped .44 magnum carried by Wernher. It has significantly higher health but is otherwise identical to the standard variant.
Paulson uses the revolver as his primary weapon, and it can only be obtained by taking it from him. It cannot be reverse-pick pocketed. As long as Paulson is alive he will use a non-playable version of the weapon. The player-usable weapon is only added to Paulson's inventory when he is dead, at which time the player may loot the item from his corpse. This weapon is only obtainable before exiting the Mothership; once Paulson leaves, the character and his associated items are removed from the game. An easy way to get the weapon is to get him to accompany you on one of the mothership quests, and leaving him to fight the aliens, which in most cases results in his death, hence giving you the ability to get his weapon.
