National Electric[Non-game 1], abbreviated to N.E. in game, was a pre-War company that manufactured holograms in collaboration with Big MT.

Background[]

Before the Great War, Frederick Sinclair wanted to go further in the holographic research, using the holograms as a means of defense. Big MT was already in development of such a technology in their Z-38 lightwave dynamics research lab. A researcher on the project doubted the feasibility of using the holograms for combat, citing the costs to turn the holograms into anything beyond walking cameras and greeters, as well as the necessity of N.E. signing off on such an idea.[1]

Despite Big MT's concerns, National Electric would go through with the project, and helped to finance, develop, as well as install the technology. By the time of their deployment the holograms would have the capabilities to serve as greeters, vendors, as well as security for the Sierra Madre.[2][Non-game 2]

Big Mountain would also assist in the creation of a hologram of Vera Keyes, a time-consuming process due to Sinclair's demands that it look "just right".[3]

Appearances[]

National Electric is mentioned in the Fallout: New Vegas add-ons Dead Money and Old World Blues, and their products appear in Dead Money.

  1. Z-38 lightwave dynamics research terminal entries, Requisition Order: "If it wasn't for Sinclair's request, this hologram project would've been canned long ago. In addition to the dispenser tech he wants for the Sierra Madre, he spoke to the Big MT execs about using the holograms for defense (?), that's something N.E. would have to sign off on; I can't even imagine the cost to turn the holograms into something beyond walking cameras and greeters. And why would you? It's only been a little while, and I already hate spending my time with these ghosts walking around the plant. Rather see the research money spent on actually improving the field of view sensors or adding upgrades to the emitters."
  2. Villa clinic terminal entries; Hologram: Threat Detection 2.6"If security holograms detect unauthorized guests or detect criminal action, they will display a warning "caution" color to the target. If you believe they ever display this color in error, immediately move away from the hologram's field of view until they resume their normal protocol. If the behavior persists, they will enter engagement mode, turn red, and attempt to subdue targets with their discharge beams. Note: As requested in the service contract, N.E. has installed EBE systems in all Sierra Madre security hologram emitters."
  3. Z-38 lightwave dynamics research terminal entries, Vera Keyes: Hologram Progress Report: "Spending a lot of hours getting the Vera Keyes hologram looking right. I'm a physicist, not a sculptor - iterating on her facial features and her dress to match Sinclair's expectations... it's about enough to make me file a complaint. I don't get the sense Sinclair's doing this out of love or well, lust. Somewhere along the line, he became cold about the whole matter, as if crafting the hologram "just right" was something he hated."
