The radiation of the wasteland has changed you! One of your traits has mutated into something else...— In-game description

Mutate! is a Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics perk.

Effects

Allows swapping a trait for another.

Notes

  • In unpatched Fallout, Gifted could be swapped for another trait while keeping the Character Points.
  • While minimally useful in Fallout and Fallout 2, Mutate! is a reasonable perk in Fallout Tactics, where it can be used to remove unfavored traits from NPC squad members.
  • If a character has only one trait, it alone must be exchanged for a new one. The empty slot cannot be filled.
    • Averted in Fallout Tactics, Mutate! can be used to give traits to NPC party members who have none already.

Behind the scenes

The image for this perk is a reference to Marvel Comics' Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk. The image of the split personality always appeared at the end of the introscene during the television series, which ran from 1978 until 1982.
