The monorail is a vehicle in Fallout: New Vegas.
Characteristics
The monorail is an ALWEG-style straddle-beam monorail train that can be used to transport the player character from The Strip to Camp McCarran or vice versa. As with most vehicles, except for the Presidential metro in the Fallout 3 add-on Broken Steel, travel is not seen. Traveling on the monorail does not take in-game time.
To be allowed to enter the monorail, the player character must have a "Liked" reputation with the New California Republic or be wearing NCR faction armor. It's also possible to enter with Boone as a companion.
It is possible to enter the car in-game when on the quest I Put a Spell on You, where the Courier plants or disarm a bomb inside the vent. It is not however possible to walk along the top of the track.boo
Notes
- During the mission I Put a Spell on You a pre-recorded announcement, likely from before the war, can be heard reminding passengers to keep children restrained when the monorail is in motion.
- When in the New Vegas side of the monorail station, the sky cannot be seen behind the monorail. This is most likely a bug.
Behind the scenes
The monorail is based on the real-life Las Vegas Monorail, 3.9-mile monorail system running along the Las Vegas Strip from the Sahara to the MGM Grand. The line does not yet reach McCarran International Airport, although there are proposals to extend the line there in the future.
