Mister Gutsy is a line of military robot models created by General Atomics International. It is a militarized version of the Type-I Mister Handy, an earlier civilian model robot created by the same company for use in household duties.
The Mister Gutsy, unlike the Mister Handy, is a dedicated combat robot and is easily distinguished from the Handy model by its military olive-drab paint job, WWII-era U.S. Army roundel insignia, improved weapons and the replacement of its British butler voice with that of an American drill sergeant. This model was commissioned by the U.S. Army just before the Great War in 2077. They have distinctive "soldierly" personalities, with an advanced AI somewhat similar to that of the Mister Handy model. More likely than not, due to the conflict with China that caused the Great War, Mister Gutsies often scream anti-communist phrases, similar to Liberty Prime. Mister Gutsies also have a more "gung-ho" patriotic personality compared to the other combat robots in the Commonwealth.
Unlike the previous versions, the Commonwealth variants have several different weapon configurations installed, including but not limited to assault rifle and laser weapon mounts. Also, their bodies, eyes, arms can now be broken in combat.
Mister Gutsy robots have several targetable sections, including the torso, right eye, mid eye, left eye, combat inhibitor, thruster, and the arms. Breaking all of the arms on a Mister Gutsy will result in it attempting a suicide rush on the Sole Survivor. The right and middle eye are targeted more easily with the Killshot perk in VATS, but not the left eye. Unlike previous Fallout renditions, its weapon layout is varied similar to the sentry bot, the guns can vary from a 10mm machine gun to a laser weapon or sometimes a flamer and the damage output also varies between models.
There are several level and faction dependent variations which may be equipped with different weaponry, such as lasers, Gunner Gutsy armed with the same 10mm machine gun as turrets, or several military versions with either the 10mm machine gun or an unidentified single shot weapon dealing moderate damage.
Unlike the Mister Handy models, the Mister Gutsy favors ranged combat over close combat. If engaged in close combat, it will behave like a Mister Handy, but it will try to break for cover at the first chance.
Like many other enemies, a neutral Mister Gutsy will turn hostile if looked at while the player is wearing power armor with a Targeting HUD mod installed.
