Mister Buckingham is a Mr. Handy robot and is owned by Vera Weatherly. He works at the Weatherly Hotel in Rivet City. He can be found at the front desk of the hotel, and can rent you a room. He also acts as the hotel's bartender.

Like all robots, he can be destroyed, this of course will make citizens hostile towards you, unless you can take him out in one shot while hidden. Interestingly enough however is that Mister Buckingham will respawn eventually, unlike any other killable named NPC. This maybe because that way there is always someone to rent a room from at the hotel, and because he's a robot and thus could be restored to working order.

It is also presumed that he is from English origins, since as you engage him he will shout; "For Queen and Country!". It also reflects in his name, which is possibly a reference to Buckingham Palace, official home of the British royalty.

[edit] Bugs

  • It is possible for the player to start a fight in Rivet City, leave, and then return later to find the city peaceful once again. If Mister Buckingham is killed with an energy weapon in a fight, when the player returns there will be an ash pile on the ground. After Mister Buckingham respawns, the ash pile will remain, and it is possible to interact with him via the ash pile. One simply needs to search the ash pile to initiate dialogue with Mister Buckingham. The players viewpoint will immediately shift to look at the living Mister Buckingham.
  • Be careful not to buy the hotel room from both Mr. Buckingham and Vera. You don't want to pay double, do you?
  • Mister Buckingham and Private Jones have a tendency to randomly turn hostile towards the player unprovoked, even when the rest of Rivet City is peaceful. The other citizens will also turn hostile doing the fight, even if the player doesn't fight back when being attacked.

If the player sits down at the table in the Weatherly Hotel when Mr Buckingham is taking orders from Rivet City civilians, he will ask for your order as well.(it will automatically face you in the direction of Mr Buckingham and the screen dialogue "May I take your order?" will appear)
