The microfusion breeder or MF breeder is a type of ammunition in Fallout: New Vegas.

Characteristics[]

A specially designed kind of microfusion cell that is unique in that it is not a physical object that can be gathered like other ammunition. Found only in recharger weapons, these microfusion cells replenish their reserves over time, essentially providing infinite ammunition. Like other energy weapon ammunition, it negates 2 points of enemy DT. Unlike other power sources, however, it cannot be overcharged to deal extra damage.

The microfusion breeder cell is the default ammunition always included with any recharger energy weapon found or purchased in the game, and is itself never found in the game world or sold by vendors. It holds no monetary value or weight encumbrance, even in hardcore mode. Under normal circumstances, this ammunition is not visible in the player character's inventory. As a general rule, it is usually only able to be seen or interacted with via a glitch when interacting with containers.

Weapons using this ammunition[]

Notes[]

  • It takes 1 second to replenish 1 unit of ammunition, and for the MF Hyperbreeder Alpha, it takes 0.5 seconds.
  • When a recharger weapon is first acquired, it shows itself to be empty of ammunition. However, once it is equipped, one will acquire a microfusion breeder, and the weapon will begin charging automatically. The DAM, DPS, and ammunition rating will then appear in the Pip-Boy.
  • The microfusion breeder used by the laser detonator is separated from the weapon, so it can be lost.
  • In order to have a non-player character use a recharger weapon, one can place a microfusion breeder cell into that non-player character's inventory in addition to the weapon, but they will fire the cell as if it were one regular cell and not a breeder cell.

Behind the scenes[]

From the name, it is likely to be associated with breeder reactors, which are a type of nuclear fission reactor that is able to produce more fissile material than it uses.
