Medicine Stick is a unique weapon added with the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Gun Runners' Arsenal.

Characteristics[]

Medicine Stick blown up

Medicine stick expanded

Compared to the standard brush gun, Medicine Stick does higher damage per shot, has a faster rate of fire and so a higher damage-per-second (DPS) value, has slightly higher critical hit damage, costs slightly less AP, has the same spread, has more durability than the unmodified standard but less than one with the forged receiver mod, has a slightly higher weight, and has a significantly higher caps value. Like most unique weapons, weapon modifications cannot be used on it.

In terms of appearance, the weapon has a long magazine tube, a light brown stock and handguard and sports a traditional medicine wheel attached to one side of the stock.

Durability[]

The Medicine Stick can fire a total of about 995 standard rounds - the equivalent of 125 reloads - from full condition before breaking.

Notes[]

  • Medicine Stick has the second highest damage per shot of all ballistic rifles in the game, surpassed only by the anti-materiel rifle.
  • The rounds inserted into the rifle differ in appearance to those loaded into the hunting revolver and its variants.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Medicine Stick's design could be a reference to multiple practices by Native American tribes.
    • Medicine sticks, also called "spirit sticks," are used by some Native American tribes for rituals relating to the spirit world and are often decorated with beads and feathers from spirit animals (such as the eagle or the bear).
    • Weapons chambered in .45-70 were often sold as surplus to Native American reservations as subsistence hunting rifles during the 19th and early 20th century. Native Americans would frequently decorate guns they acquired with feathers, beads and nails, similar to the appearance of Medicine Stick.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Xbox 360Xbox 360 When firing from long ranges, it appears that the sights are not completely aligned, meaning one will have to aim slightly to the left of an enemy for a direct hit. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 Sometimes, the lever may remain downward after running while reloading. This is purely aesthetic, however; it will return to its original position when one stops moving or holstering the weapon. [verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 While reloading in third-person view, one may not see the usual lever action after reloading. [verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 If one looks at the opposite side of the stock when holstered, the feather will have disappeared. This is most evident when wearing heavy/medium armor such as power armor or NCR Ranger patrol armor. [verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 Xbox 360Xbox 360 As with the regular brush gun, the Medicine Stick may glitch in V.A.T.S. mode, causing the cocking handle to become stuck in the downward position. The player will not fire any rounds, and will stay in the glitched state until killed. This may require a reload of a previous save. [verified]
  • PCPC Xbox 360Xbox 360 The reload animation of lever action weapons does not have a corresponding jam animation, so the weapon will not jam, even at near-breaking conditions. [verified]
  • PCPC Xbox 360Xbox 360 Like all round by round reloading weapons in the game, if the player switches ammo types quick enough, the animation to load a single round is played but the tube will be fully reloaded. [verified]
