See, little Marie isn't just special to Ashur and I. She's the cure for The Pitt's mutations, so she's special to all of us.— Marie's mother, Sandra

Marie is the daughter of Ishmael Ashur and Sandra Kundanika,[1] living in Haven in 2277.

Background[]

Less than a year old, Marie was born with a natural resistance to radiation and Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion,[2][3][4] and because of this unique gift, she has been studied by her parents to find a cure to help with the constant radiation in the Pitt.[5][6][7] Teddy bears are her favorite toy.[Non-game 1]

This character is involved in quests.

Quests[]

  • Free Labor: Control over Marie is the central objective for both sides of the conflict. Steal the baby away from her parents or leave the people of the Pitt to suffer in slavery.[6]

Notes[]

  • Once the Lone Wanderer picks her up, she becomes a quest item called "baby" and therefore cannot be dropped.
  • The item 'baby' displays as a damaged garden gnome when dropped. This can be discovered using console commands, such as placeatme.
  • After acquiring Marie, accessing the terminal in Sandra's lab and selecting "baby monitor" may prompt "baby not found, insert baby and try again."
  • She is the only baby seen in Fallout 3.
  • At one point in development, a Pitt slave named Beth would intercept the player character, should they choose to kidnap Marie. Beth would proceed to take Marie from the Lone Wanderer and to Midea's quarters.

Appearances[]

Marie appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on The Pitt.

  1. Sandra: "Oh! I wasn't expecting Ashur to let you into the lab. I'm Sandra, and if I know my husband, he's already made you an offer to join us, right? I'm Sandra. Ashur set me up here to work on The Pitt's medical research, and Marie here is our daughter. Our little miracle, really."
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  2. The Lone Wanderer: "Wait, you mean she has a natural and transferable immunity of some sort?"
Sandra: "Well, this is a nice surprise. Apparently, you and Ashur are the only other people who know anything about science in this place. Yes, it seems that our daughter was born with a naturally acquired immunity to any form of mutation. It's nothing short of a miracle, honestly. I'm still trying to figure out why, but she may just hold the key to stopping The Pitt's Trog problem. Hell, maybe other types of mutations, too!"
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  3. The Lone Wanderer: "What are you talking about? That's a baby, not a vaccine."
Sandra: "Believe it or not, she's both. My daughter appears to have a naturally acquired immunity to any form of mutation. Basically, she won't turn into one of the Trogs. Or a Ghoul, or anything else. And by studying her, we can keep that from happening to others, too."
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  4. The Lone Wanderer: "You're kidding me. A baby can't be the cure!"
Sandra: "No really. It's nothing short of a miracle, but Ashur and I couldn't be happier. Our daughter was born with an immunity to The Pitt's mutations. What's more, Marie's miracle should lead us to a vaccine for others. And maybe even protection from other effects of radiation."
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  5. The Lone Wanderer: "You're using your own child as an experiment? You monster!"
Sandra: "No, no, nothing like that. Calm down, these are just observational tests, and perfectly safe for Marie. Ashur and I would never risk her health, and if that means it takes longer to develop a full cure, then, well... everyone else can wait."
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  6. 6.0 6.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Sorry, but the slaves don't have time to wait for a cure. I'm taking Marie."
Sandra: "And you really think the slaves can develop a cure more efficiently than I can? Don't be an idiot. And if they so much as pluck one hair off her head, I'll be sure to pluck one eye out of each of theirs. So maybe you should just put her back right this instant and tell those miserable bastards that they can wait until their goddamned turn."
    (Sandra's dialogue)
  7. The Lone Wanderer: "Aren't you worried about hurting Marie?"
Sandra: "Oh, no, these tests are perfectly safe. In fact, between the crib and her uncanny health, she's probably the safest child in the world! Ashur and I would never risk her health, and if that means it takes longer to develop a full cure, then, well... everyone else can wait."
    (Sandra's dialogue)

Non-game

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.84: "Marie
Cute, innocent, and unusually quiet, Marie is less than a year old and in perfect health. The offspring of Ashur and Sandra, her conception occurred after Sandra set up her laboratory in a wing of Ashur's palace. As two of the most educated people in The Pitt, they spent long hours together. Over time, they have come to honestly care for each other, and the safe birth of their child is considered nothing short of a miracle—one they intend to use for the benefit of their city."
