Well, people always talk about Vault City taking over to get our gold. Or one of the families in New Reno getting everyone hooked on their dope in order to take over. Or even the NCR wanting to annex us. I tell you, the NCR's our best bet - but they're all just out for our gold.

Marge LeBarge is the owner of the Kokoweef Mine in 2241.

Background[]

Marge was born in Canada, on the edge of Lake LeBarge.[1] Life shaped her into a strong woman with a burly appearance and a definite air of authority around her.[2] These traits help her manage the Kokoweef gold mine, an occupation usually associated with men.

She is a fairly amiable person, given the rough nature of her miners. She is in direct competition with Dan McGrew and Morningstar, not just economically, but also politically. While McGrew supports New Reno, Marge firmly believes that throwing Redding's lot with the anarchic, violent city of sin would backfire. In her opinion, annexation by the NCR is the best bet, though only for a lack of a better option. All the Republic really wants is gold, with the welfare of Redding a distant concern.[3]

Effects of the player's actions[]

  • Depending on how the player resolves the bar brawl (talking Blasphemous Bette down, jailing one faction over the other, killing the offenders: which results in the entire town becoming hostile), Marge will comment on its outcome. In this order: grateful,[4] grateful and glad her people were exonerated,[5] disappointed that her people were arrested,[6][7] or angered that miners were murdered.[8]

Notes[]

If the excavator chip was sold to Dan McGrew, Marge claims he supports the NCR by stating they are "prissy buggers."

Marge LeBarge appears only in Fallout 2.

Behind the scenes[]

Her name is a reference to the well-known poem "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert W. Service. In the poem, the narrator cremates the character on the "Marge of Lake Lebarge."
