Mardin

From The Vault

Jump to: navigation, search

Mardin is an underground cave labyrinth northwest of St. Louis, within which the lair of the Beastlords was located. The Beastlords possessed an inherent telepathic suggestion which allowed them to control animals. It was acquired through prolonged exposure to an unknown radiation present within Mardin's underground caves. According to the Brotherhood scribes, that this unique mutation only manifests in humans that have been exposed for at least twenty years.

Around 2197, an Eastern Brotherhood of Steel squad was sent to Mardin and eliminated the Beastlords.

[edit] Mission walkthrough

After this mission you will be able to recruit deathclaws, and as this is an objective, the BoS will like you more for it. Take more 7.62mm bullets than usual, as here it will be rare. Take shotgun shells and JHP bullets too, as the enemies will be unarmored again. Come here daytime.

On the surface it is the hunting season. The hardest things to shoot will be the giant wasps - they are too small, so try burst mode.

The only thing worth to mention is that you will find a H&K CAWS early on. This is a perfect burst-mode shotgun. Will be useful when you enter the underground camp.

There are many entrances to it. If you go down the farthest it will turn into a separated crypt. Loot. If you go down the big hole there will be giant insects. Than baby deathclaws, which you may prefer to save (doesn't matter, and this is the easiest way to enter).

The main entrance sucks. Try the one closest to the crypt. Run down in aggressive mode, bursting the Caws. Than be cautious. Use grenades if you feel so.

Find the Matriarch. Unlock the cage's door, but do not open it until you kill everyone except the main room, where Emperor Dahl resides. In the cages there are baby deathclaws, and on the other side there are civilians. The civilians' cage requires lockpick (20% will do, if you forget the lockpicks) and run to the surface (clear the way for them), the baby deathclaws' cages can be opened with a switch. This way you can get some reinforcement after you open Mother's cage and talk to her. When you do that she will go down the main hall, and start hitting the Beastlords. The baby deathclaws still alive will turn all green, and helps you in this fight (sorry for them as they will most likely all die).

After the fight is over, talk again with the mother (you will find her in Bunker Gamma, you can hire her, you can barter with her - has no items makes this possibility unnecessary).

You will advance greatly in your rank and karma after finishing this mission if you complete all the subplots.
