From The Vault
The Lucky 8 Ball can be obtained by healing the injured Timebomb in Big Town (Red´s clinic). It will only be given to the PC by Timebomb after the Super Mutant attack is repelled.
It has a weight of 1 and increases Luck stat by 1 point (up to a maximum of 10) as long as it is carried in the inventory. If you drop it (including storing it in a locker in your house) you will "no longer feel lucky," and the luck bonus will be removed until you pick it up again.
- To acquire it, you must save Timebomb's life by performing an operation on him in the Big Town clinic, save Red and help Big Town to survive the Super Mutant attack at the end of Big Trouble in Big Town. The next time you see Timebomb, he'll thank you and give you his Lucky 8 Ball. There is a chance Timebomb will die during the Super Mutant attack, in which case, the Lucky 8 Ball cannot be looted from his corpse. To prevent this, heal him AFTER the super mutant attack and receive his gratitude. Talk to him again and he will give you the 8 Ball. Note that you must have a medicine skill of at least 40 to be able to heal Timebomb.
- The luck +1 effect is not shown in the Status Effects section of your Pipboy, but you can see the increased stat under the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. section.
- There is a glitch if you are carrying the Lucky 8 Ball when you pick up the Luck Bobble Head. To avoid it, drop the 8 ball then get the bobble head, then pick up the 8 ball.
- When carrying the Lucky 8 Ball and the Ranger Battle Armor, you will get the +2 luck bonus, but will receive no bonus to your skills as you normally would. Dropping the RBA before picking up the 8 ball will not help [Xbox 360].
- With the Broken Steel DLC, if the Almost Perfect perk is chosen and you have the Lucky 8 Ball in your inventory, your Luck will only be at 8 when the item is removed. Be sure to remove it from your inventory before leveling up in order to have 10 with the Lucky 8 Ball.
- It is possible that the +1 Luck effect will stop working. If this happens, when you put the Lucky 8 Ball in your inventory it will display the "Good luck added" message, followed immediately by "You are no longer feeling lucky". One fix is to give it to a companion through dialog, exit the dialog, then take it back through dialog (tested with Charon on Xbox 360). This will restore the +1 Luck while in your inventory.
