This will lower your Luck by one, and allow you to get 9 across the board without the ball. Picking up the 8 ball will raise your Luck to 10 or rescue Red from super mutants after level 30 and heal Timebomb at the same time after level 30 .

Here... take this. It's always given me good luck.Timebomb

The lucky 8-ball is a unique pool ball in Fallout 3.

Characteristics

It has a weight of 1 and increases the Luck stat by 1 point (up to a maximum of 10) as long as it is carried in the inventory. If it is dropped (including storing it in a locker in a house) it will mention "no longer feeling lucky," and the Luck bonus will be removed until it is picked up again.

Unlike normal pool balls, it cannot be used as Rock-It Launcher ammunition.

Location

The lucky 8-ball can be obtained by healing the injured Timebomb in Big Town. It will only be given to the Lone Wanderer by Timebomb after the super mutant attack is repelled.

Notes

  • The effect is not shown in the "Status Effects" section of the Pip-Boy, but the increased stat can be seen in the "S.P.E.C.I.A.L." section.
  • The effect counts for perk requirements, such as Better Criticals, which requires 6 Luck.
  • Though it no longer serves any purpose, this item can be found in the game files for Fallout: New Vegas.
  • If Almost Perfect (which raises all Special points to 9) is taken with the lucky 8 ball in the inventory, it will have no use. When dropped, it will actually LOWER Luck to 8, since it counts it as a semi-permanent increase. To get around this: upon hearing the drum roll for hitting level 30 (or before it happens), quickly open the inventory and drop the 8 ball. This will lower Luck by one, and allow getting 9 across the board without the ball. Picking up the 8 ball will raise Luck to 10. This means you can actually pick up the Luck Bobblehead long before level 30, just don't forget drop the ball before taking Almost Perfect.
