Leather Armor is a lightweight body armor made from tanned brahmin hide, offering protection from firearms and melee damage.

[edit] Origins

The original Leather Armor was designed for Motorcycle Football and other dangerous contact sports. It is likely that the simple construction techniques required to produce armor of this design made it a popular choice following a nuclear disaster. It provides moderate protection, and the light construction makes it easier to dodge attacks while worn. Unfortunately, it provides little to no protection against explosions or plasma attack.

Leather Armor in Fallout 3 offers significant improvements over previous games, being comparable to the Recon Armor and superior to Vault Security Armor and the Raider armors (Badlands, Blastmaster, and Sadist). Effectively, it's the "poor man's" Combat Armor. It is typical armor for mercenaries guard.

Its appearance in Fallout 3 is also drastically different compared to previous games. It looks like an enhanced version of the Leather Jacket of previous games with the within sleeve in the other side.

It being a black color and resembling the outfit worn by Mad Max in Road Warrior, an easter egg previously done by the Leather Jacket. The Female version also lacks a left sleeve, and has football shoulder pads in place of the Road Warrior style pauldrons.

Jericho wears a unplayable version of leather armor, which cannot be taken from him or used by the player and has a different ID. Like the Leather Jacket armor in the previous Fallout games, this one lacks one of its sleeves.

A unique version of Leather Armor exists, the Wanderer's Leather Armor.

[edit] Cut versions

The following is based on Fallout 3 cut content and has not been confirmed by canon sources.

Three cut versions of Leather Armor can be found in the game files. They are identical to Leather Armor in all but name and can only be obtained via console commands.

They are:

  • Commando Armor
  • Defender Armor
  • Road Rascal Leather Armor
