La Longue Carabine is a unique weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Owned by Corporal Sterling of the New California Republic Army's First Recon, he has carried it for at least as long as he's been in the sharpshooting regiment and modified it himself to use a scope, something rarely seen of most repeaters.[1] Lieutenant Gorobets gave the corporal permission to use the gun despite other members of First Recon using bolt-action rifles, so long as he was able to hit his targets.[1]

Characteristics[]

La Longue Carabine expanded

Compared to the standard cowboy repeater, La Longue Carabine deals more damage and reloads through the front of the magazine tube, similar in design to Lincoln's repeater. Its spread has been reduced greatly as a result of patch 1.3.0.452 to less than that of the standard but slightly more than that of the marksman carbine. Unlike other lever action rifles, La Longue Carabine is not loaded with ammunition one round at a time, but instead all at once and due to this, reloading the rifle may be faster than reloading an empty cowboy repeater and so gives it a higher damage-per-second (DPS) value.

In terms of appearance, the weapon has ornate engraving on the stock towards the butt, a darker wooden finish, and unique color case hardening marks on receiver, as well as a side mounted telescopic sight.

Like most unique weapons, weapon modifications cannot be used on La Longue Carabine. By default, it comes with the scope modification and the extended feeder magazine pre-installed.

Durability[]

La Longue Carabine can fire a total of about 745 standard rounds, the equivalent of 68 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Locations[]

La Longue Carabine is carried by Corporal Sterling, a member of NCR's First Recon, in Camp McCarran. If the quest Three-Card Bounty has been completed, he and First Recon will move to Camp Forlorn Hope. The weapon can be pickpocketed from him or taken from his body if he is killed.

Notes[]

  • Sterling rarely leaves the First Recon tent, making it significantly difficult to acquire this weapon without damaging NCR reputation.

Bugs[]

  • Xbox 360Xbox 360 Sometimes, it will be impossible to switch ammunition types, even when a particular ammunition type has been exhausted. This is resolvable by dropping, or storing the weapon on a companion, and then reequipping it. Though it may still not be possible to switch ammunition types while equipped.[verified]
  • Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3 When aiming, it will sometimes display a random assortment of colors in an odd pattern.[verified]
  • PCPC When firing, La Longue Carabine's hammer and bolt does not move when the rifle is cycled, except for the latter during the reload animation.

  1. 1.0 1.1 Courier: "Interesting rifle you have there. Lever-action, right?"
Corporal Sterling: "I call her La Longue Carabine. Didn't always have the scope - I added that myself. Been shooting with her so long... couldn't bring myself to toss her away. Would have felt guilty to part with the old girl. The other snipers use bolt-action, but Gorobets reckoned it didn't matter none if I was different, so long as I can hit my targets."

Non-game

  1. Anonymous: "I just wanted you to know, La Longue Carabine is the most beautiful gun I've ever seen in a video game."
Joshua Sawyer: "Thanks, though all credit belongs to Paul Fish, who did the modeling and texturing. The offset scope was based on one we saw in a Clint Eastwood film (not the Sharps in Josey Wales -- another one I can't remember right now)."
