We are a friendly order, but as you know, times are rough.

Jennifer is a Brotherhood of Steel paladin stationed in the Lost Hills bunker in Fallout. She is standing guard at the bunker's level 1 elevator with another paladin.

Background[]

A faithful paladin of the Brotherhood of Steel, Jennifer has served the order faithfully for years, without devoting too much thought to whether the finer points of its teachings or the naming. She accepted the Brotherhood as a matter of fact, together with the fact every member is referred to as Brother, without regard for their gender. The fact that key positions are held by women on equal terms with men likely helped.[1] It doesn't really bother her to be adressed as Brother, though she's unaware of the precise reason for naming it as such.[2]

She doesn't abide anyone insulting the Brotherhood or trying cheap pickup lines on her. She believes that any members of the order can be rightfully proud to be a part of the organization,[3] whose professed primary objective is saving lives and is unambiguously the most well trained and equipped fighting force in New California of the time.[4]

Interactions overview[]

This character has other interactions.
  • The player can chat with Jennifer and pique her interest in the naming convention of the Brotherhood, as well as try pickup lines. None of these have an effect in the game.
  • Jennifer can also help locate some of the named characters in the Brotherhood.

Jennifer appears only in Fallout.

Behind the scenes[]

  • When asked about Vree, Jennifer replies that "[s]he almost always stays in her room, which is also occupied by the mainframe on the third floor." As the mainframe is on the fourth floor, Jennifer is likely a holdover from when Lost Hills was laid out differently.
  • She was planned to be a romantic interest for male player characters. Both the scripting and dialogue remain in the game, but the relevant parts of her script do not call the functions. A corrected script has been created by the community that allows for flirting (although in the absence of a proper day/night cycle it offers limited reactivity).

  1. Vault Dweller: "{124}{}{Thank you for your help, Sister. It's good to see there are women of rank in this organization. I didn't know what to expect with a name like the Brotherhood.} "
Jennifer: "{130}{}{Of course there are. Two of our five Elders are women, our master scribe is a woman, and we have many other women in all the different ranks.}" or "{131}{}{The women of the Brotherhood are also called Brothers. We don't call the women Sisters. This is the Brotherhood of Steel, after all, not the Brother and Sisterhood of Steel.}"
Vault Dweller: "{132}{}{Don't you find it peculiar that it is called the Brotherhood, implying that its members consist solely of men?} "
  2. Vault Dweller: "{133}{}{But why is it called the Brotherhood, then?} "
Jennifer: "{138}{}{That is strange. I've never really put much thought into it. We've been the Brotherhood of Steel all of my life. Our ancestors must have had a reason for naming it so.} "
    Vault Dweller: "{139}{}{But that doesn't mean things can't change.} "
Vault Dweller: "{145}{}{No, we're very strict when it comes to tradition. I don't think it could ever be changed. It doesn't bother me at all to be addressed as a Brother. That is curious, though.}" or "{146}{}{I think I'll have a talk with Vree. She might be able to give some insight as to why our ancestors decided to call us the Brotherhood of Steel.} "
  3. Vault Dweller: "{109}{}{Who's in charge of this hole?} "
Jennifer: "{150}{}{Hole? How dare you talk like that about the Brotherhood. You are a member of our order now, and should be proud to be a member of the Brotherhood of Steel.}"
Vault Dweller: "{151}{}{Proud? Why? You're all just a bunch of robotic hop-heads, hiding from the real world. There's nothing to be proud of there.} "
  4. Jennifer: "{181}{}{Well, yes, you are a member of the Brotherhood, but the Elders have put a hold on all training of new Initiates.}"
    Vault Dweller: "{182}{}{Why?} "
Jennifer: "{184}{}{There are rumors about some kind of army. I think the Elders want to concentrate their resources on the ones that are already far enough along in their training to make a difference if we do have a big battle on our hands.}"
Jennifer: "{185}{}{We strongly believe that training a few fighters extremely well is better than giving mediocre training to a bunch of fighters. Saving lives is one of our primary objectives.} "
Vault Dweller: "{187}{}{Well, I'm to be working on the outside of the Brotherhood, right? It's a very hostile world out there and I'll be putting my life on the line every minute I'm out there. Don't you think I should be given training if I want or need it, or do you only 'say' it is your primary objective to 'save' lives?} "
Jennifer: "{191}{}{Well, I'm only repeating what I was told. If you talk to Thomas or Talus they might be able to make an exception.} "
    Vault Dweller: "{192}{}{Okay, thanks.} "
