Should I invite the Neusbaums over for Bridge, or will you be down in the basement all night again?

Janet Rockwell[1] is the wife of Roger Rockwell, living in Tranquility Lane in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Janet is one of Vault 112's inhabitants, trapped in Tranquility Lane alongside her husband, Roger. She has an affinity for baking and gardening, as well as caring for her appearance with occasional trips to the salon.[Non-game 1] Janet has a vague memory of moving to the simulation's neighborhood, apart from commenting that it was Roger's choice though she cannot recall when the decision was made.[2]

She has a dislike for Mabel Henderson, stemming from her being "a little too nosey" and questioning if the Lone Wanderer has been asked to pry into her marriage per Mabel's request;[3][4] if Mabel is asked about the Rockwells' marriage, she states that an argument broke out a year prior where Janet accused her husband of cheating on her with Martha Simpson.[5] As a result, she has been plotting various ways to kill her husband's alleged mistress.[Non-game 1]

In reality, she is stuck in the Tranquility Lounger at Vault 112, as resident 115, with elevated stress levels: 87 bpm, 140/85 mmHg of blood pressure, 98.2°F/36.7°C temperature, and 18 breaths per minute, similar to Timmy Neusbaum and Martha Simpson.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

When looking at resident IDs, Roger Rockwell and Martha Simpson have adjacent IDs (226 and 227 respectively), while Janet Simpson has the ID 115. As such, it's entirely possible that Rockwell and Simpson were originally a couple, rather than Janet.

  2. The Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about the neighborhood?"
Janet Rockwell: "Roger suggested we move here... I don't quite remember when that was... It's very nice. We're doing quite well."
    (Janet Rockwell's dialogue)
  3. The Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about Mabel Henderson?"
Janet Rockwell: "Roger and I don't spend much time with Mabel, frankly. She's a little nosey for my tastes. And I don't like visiting her house, either. That robot she's got makes me nervous. She says it's perfectly safe, but something about it... it just makes me uncomfortable."
    (Janet Rockwell's dialogue)
  4. The Lone Wanderer: "Anything you want to tell me about your marriage?"
Janet Rockwell: "Our marriage? Goodness, what kind of a question is that? Mabel didn't put you up to this, did she? What a silly thing to ask about."
    (Janet Rockwell's dialogue)
  5. The Lone Wanderer: "Can you tell me anything about the Rockwells' marriage?"
Mabel Henderson: "Well, they're just so nice, aren't they? It's good the two of them worked everything out."
The Lone Wanderer:"What do you mean, "worked everything out"?"
Mabel Henderson: "Oh, I... Well, I'm not one to talk, but there was that fight last year. Everyone could hear them arguing. Janet thought there was something going on with Roger and Martha Simpson. He eventually convinced her it wasn't true. But I've seen the way Martha looks at him. Janet may believe him, but I sure don't."
    (Mabel Henderson's dialogue)

    "Janet Rockwell:
Janet's days consist of baking cookies and a variety of pies, going to the salon, and a little light gardening, before she retires to the kitchen to pace with her Rolling Pin, thinking up ways to kill her neighbor Martha. That hussy is having an affair with her dear Roger; she's sure of it."
