Dr. Harrison T. Peters[1] was a scientist involved in the agricultural experiments inside Vault 22. He was the first known victim of the B. mordicana fungus in Vault 22.

Background[]

Dr. Peters worked in the Food Production level of Vault 22, where he was known for his less than stellar work ethic.[2] When Assistant Mathers went missing in the caves underneath the vault, Dr. Peters and two security guards entered the caves in search of him. Only Peters and one of the guards, who was badly wounded, managed to make it back, and Peters did not elaborate when asked about the other guard, only shaking his head. Shortly afterwards, the caves were sealed by order of Administrator Bailey.[3][4]

Some point after this event, Peters entered the Vault clinic and was diagnosed with pneumonia, with the physician putting him on a standard treatment for the illness, ordering him to stop working and come to the clinic twice daily for observation.[1] Because of Peters' poor work ethic, after three days sick his supervisor requested confirmation from the clinic that Peters was, in fact, sick.[2]

A week after Dr. Peters first reported to the clinic, his mysterious contagion had begun to spread, with a group of residents also coming into the clinic sick.[5] Sometime after that, the Vault physician discovered that Peters' body was actively rejecting his pneumonia treatment. The physician scheduled Peters for exploratory surgery,[6] but ten minutes before the operation was due to happen, Peters died from his condition. Upon autopsy, the physician discovered that Peters' lungs were filled with a fungal infection (B. mordicana, unknown to them at that time) which was still growing despite the host's (Peters') death.[7] At the end of the day, Peters' corpse reanimated and attacked the doctor, who fled the clinic, barring the reanimated creature inside. Security arrived and presumably killed the creature. Peters was one of the first people to die from the experiments in Vault 22 and became the Vault's earliest known spore carrier.[8]

Peters' colleagues in Food Production were saddened by the news of his death. They also heard that his reanimated corpse had attacked the physician, which was dismissed by Peters' supervisor as a "vicious rumor."[9]

Appearances[]
