Paladin Gunny is a Brotherhood of Steel Paladin stationed at the Citadel in 2277, and is tasked as the drill instructor for new initiates.

Background[]

Paladin Gunny was involved in Elder Lyons' original expedition to the Capital Wasteland.[citation needed] Although he disagrees with Elder Lyons’ policy of recruiting wastelanders into the Brotherhood, he still works to train them to the best of his abilities before they are pressed into service, whether that be against the super mutants or the renewed threat of the Enclave. As the Enclave’s presence means that many of his initiates are likely to be sent into battle before they’ve taken the Brotherhood’s oath, his work has been cut out for him.[1][Non-game 1] He has particularly strong feelings on the Enclave, viewing them as cowards for shooting unarmed civilians. He fully believes that the Brotherhood will defeat them, and that the experience and equipment gained by doing so will improve the Brotherhood’s abilities.[2][3] He also has additional thoughts on the Enclave after the destruction of Liberty Prime[4] and the capture of the Enclave-controlled Adams Air Force Base.[5] Despite his harsh attitude towards the Initiates that he is training, he genuinely cares about their survival and only treats them harshly to prepare them for the difficulties of the battlefield.[6]

He is responsible for training all initiates in the use of power armor.[7] Should the Lone Wanderer acquire permission from Elder Lyons, Gunny will reluctantly train them as well, despite them not having gone through the same rigorous training as his initiates.[7][8]

Daily schedule[]

He can be found in the A ring just outside the lab in the council room, outside in the courtyard training recruits during the daytime, or inside a dormitory in B ring.

Other interactions[]

  • If permission is granted by Elder Lyons, Gunny can train the Lone Wanderer to properly use and wear power armor. However, Gunny does not like it as he clearly states, "Yeah, I can train you. But don't ask me to like it. My initiates sweat blood, and you just get a free pass?"
  • He has a low opinion of the Enclave and their tactics, and will readily voice these opinions if inquired about them.
  • Once Gunny has provided the Lone Wanderer with power armor training, he will lose his essential status.
