The Great Salt Lake is a lake in the pre-War state of Utah with Salt Lake City and New Canaan on its coast. The Great Salt Lake is mentioned as being a known territory of the White Legs.[1][2][3]

Background[]

In 2277, Ulysses was sent to the Great Salt Lake to rally the White Legs against the New Canaanites in hopes of killing Joshua Graham. If Graham is convinced to let Salt-Upon-Wounds live, he tells him to leave and return to the Great Salt Lake.[4][5][6]

By 2281, New Canaan, a town north of the Great Salt Lake, was destroyed.[7] In the same year, the Courier went on an expedition with Happy Trails Caravan Company to Zion Canyon.

Notes[]

Dead Sea mentions his origins as the lake, being taken from the area by Caesar as a baby.[8]

Appearances[]

The Great Salt Lake is mentioned in Fallout: New Vegas and its add-ons Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road, and would have appeared as an unmarked location in the canceled Fallout 3 project Van Buren.

Behind the scenes[]

The Great Salt Lake is based on the real world location of the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

  1. The Courier: "Degenerate tribes?"
Jed Masterson: "That's right. The folks that lived in Zion before the war, they didn't just get a little savage, they're downright feral. Most of them don't even speak English any more - you got to get yourself a New Canaanite translator to talk to them. The ones you really got to watch out for are the White Legs, from the Great Salt Lake. They'll attack just about anyone that ain't one of theirs."

  5. The Courier: "If what you believe is true, he'll pay for it later. The Sorrows don't need to see you do this."
Joshua Graham: "I want to take from them what they took from me, from my family. In this life. I want them to suffer. I want all of them to die in fear and pain. I want to have my revenge. Against him. Against Caesar. I want to call it my own, to make my anger God's anger. To justify the things I've done. Sometimes I tell myself that these wild fires never stop burning. But I'm the one who starts them. Not God. Not them. I can always see it in my mind. The warmth and the heat. It will always be a part of me. But not today. [SUCCEEDED] Go. Get out of here. Go back. Back to the Great Salt Lake."
    (Joshua Graham's dialogue)
  6. Joshua Graham: "There. That's it. It's finished. When they hear what happened here, the White Legs will crawl back to their Great Salt Lake. If Caesar doesn't kill them, they'll wither and die like the cursed mongrels they are. Come. Let's find Daniel. Tomorrow will be here soon. And there is still much work to be done."
(Joshua Graham's dialogue) Note: This line is spoken if Salt-Upon-Wounds is executed during the quest Crush the White Legs.
  7. The Courier: "Wait, what? New Canaan was wiped out? How?"
Follows-Chalk: "That's what Joshua said. White Legs came down from Great Salt Lake in force - fell on New Canaan before they could mount a defense. Joshua found some of the survivors led by a man named Daniel. Most of them have fled the valley, but Daniel stayed on with the Sorrows tribe. He and Joshua have been arguing over whether to stand and fight the White Legs or take the Sorrows and the Dead Horses out of the valley."
    (Follows-Chalk's dialogue)
  8. The Courier: "Who are you?"
Dead Sea: "I am a loyal servant of Caesar, and I thank my good fortune for the day that he plucked me as a babe from the shore of the Great Salt Lake. For five years I have had the privilege of serving as a Decanus. If fortune continues to smile upon me, I will serve him until I draw my last breath. I hope that satisfies your curiosity about me, because I won't waste any more of Caesar's time talking about myself."
