The Great Bear grenade rifle is a unique weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.

Background[]

The "Great Bear" grenade rifle model was used by the US military during the Sino-American War. The Chinese military attempted to replicate it and mass-produce their own model.[1]

Characteristics[]

Great Bear rifle blown up

Great Bear rifle expanded

Compared to the standard grenade rifle and all other variants, the Great Bear grenade rifle deals more direct damage and critical hit damage, has the lowest spread, and has the highest durability. It has the second-lowest AP cost, the second-lowest weight, the third-highest damage-per-second (DPS) value, and shares the highest caps value with the Red Victory grenade rifle.

Visually, the weapon has a khaki painted barrel, darker wooden stock, blue highlights on the wrist and fore end, and a white US Armed Forces star emblem on the stock.

Durability[]

The Great Bear grenade rifle can fire a total of about 1245 standard rounds from full condition before breaking.

Location[]

The weapon is found inside the gun case located near Colonel Royez at the Long 15. It can only be obtained if the Courier chooses to launch the missiles at the NCR, or both the NCR and the Legion during The Apocalypse. If that quest is failed and The End is completed by aborting the missile launch, the weapon is unobtainable without console commands.

Notes[]

  • The Great Bear grenade rifle takes its texture and mesh from the scorpion rifle, a cut weapon from Old World Blues. It would have fired miniature blue robo-scorpions.
  • The weapon is heavier than the Red Victory grenade rifle also found in Lonesome Road but does more contact damage with its grenades.
  • The weapon is not affected by Grunt.

Behind the scenes[]

The Great Bear grenade rifle is based on the M79 grenade launcher.[Non-game 1]
