Grady's Package
From The Vault
| ||||||||||||||||||
Grady's Package is an unmarked quest in Fallout 3 which can be done alongside the Those! quest. The quest may begin on the corpse of Grady, located on the first mezzanine inside Marigold Station, though you can complete the quest without finding Grady's corpse, so long as you find Grady's Safe Key inside the fire hose case in the maintenance room located with directions below.
When you enter the Marigold Station, follow the passage until you get to a big hall. There is a small manager's booth. Inside is Grady's skeleton next to a holotape 'Grady's Last Recording' which explains how to find 'the package'.
Downstairs from here there should be two tunnels next to each other. Follow the right one and open the first door on your right. If you have not yet completed the Those! quest, then you should encounter several fire ants on your way. In the first room, there is a door to a maintenance closet, which contains a firehose. Grady's Safe Key is inside the firehose case. (B)
Continue through the passageway until you once again reach the main tunnels and take a left then a right. In this next tunnel, turn left and head down the right hand side of the train. You will come to a rotating light and an 'easy' locked door. You can lockpick the door or use the terminal. Inside the room is the safe (alongside other items such as a Ripper). The safe contains the Naughty Nightwear. (C)
Once you grab the Naughty Nightwear, an NPC called Lug-Nut will approach you and demand that you give it to him. He leaves with the nightwear if you give it to him, but it is possible to kill him to get it back. If you choose to give the nightwear to Lug-Nut and loot it off his corpse after you've killed him, it will have been fully repaired. Alternatively, you can Mezz him before he takes it and get 200 caps when you return to Paradise Falls.

[edit] Rewards
The reward for this quest is the Naughty Nightwear or, if you return it to Ronald Laren in Girdershade, (west of Jacko's Pop & Gas Stop and South-West of Smith Casey's Garage) he will reward you with 200 caps, or 300 if you pass a speech check.
[edit] Notes
- Exploit: Before Lug-Nut asks you for the Naughty Nightwear, drop it on the ground, then give him the suit when he demands it. Kill him as he walks away (NO negative Karma), then retrieve a fully repaired suit off his corpse, and the original suit off the ground where you dropped it.
- If your speech is high enough, you can convince Lug-Nut that great damage will be inflicted upon him if he persists. The chance of success for this speech check is greatly improved by wearing the Naughty Nightwear you just picked up as it gives +10 Speech. He will then place his tail between his hind legs and scatter off without confrontation. At this point it is also easy to kill him, as he walks slowly, allowing a clean Sneak attack aimed at his head. Alternatively, place a few mines inside the room where the nightwear is and he'll just blow up and no problem will arise.
- In the quest The Nuka-Cola Challenge you meet Sierra Petrovita and in the dialogue with her she mentions that Ronald Laren protects her. In one of the instances he told off two raiders and punched one in the face whose name is "Lug-Nut." Seems like this poor guy doesn't get any luck with the ladies. If you have already found Grady's Last Recording you can ask Sierra if she knows Grady (she doesn't).
- If your sneak skill is high enough, it is possible to pickpocket the Naughty Nightwear off of Ronald Laren and sell it back to him numerous times, enabling you to get an infinite amount of caps as long as you're careful enough to save before each attempt. Even with a sneak skill of 100 it's really hard to pickpocket him. And sometimes it disappears from his inventory even if you pickpocket him or kill him, it simply is not on his person. (Confirmed, Xbox 360)
- In the quest The Nuka-Cola Challenge if you chose to use your Black Widow perk and make Ronald Laren hunt for Nuka Cola Quantum himself, he will be dead in the Nuka-Cola Plant and thus you won't be able to sell the Naughty Nightwear to him.
- This quest can be done without finding the key simply by picking the safe containing the nightwear.
- If you do give Lug-Nut the Naughty Nightwear it is highly likely that Lug-Nut will be killed by the Fire Ants, although the Naughty Nightwear sometimes disappears from his inventory (Confirmed on the Xbox 360).
[edit] Glitches
- Sometimes when you get to Girdershade Ronald may not be there. If you then head NW you will encounter two Enclave Soldiers, an Enclave Officer and two Deathclaws out in the Wasteland. The Enclave personnel are all lying on the floor - they appear dead, but once you've killed the Deathclaws you will be attacked by what seems to be 'invisible enemies'. You are even given the opportunity to pick-pocket them if they happen to be close enough! The only way to cease these attacks will be to shoot the three Enclave 'corpses' lying on the ground, until their health is completely depleted.
- Sometimes if you give Lug-Nut the Naughty Nightwear and take it back, you will be unable to sell it to Ronald, as there will be no dialog option for it. Of course this could not be a glitch, as technically you did give it to Lug-Nut and not Ronald. However, if you used the glitch to get 2 Naughty Nightwears, you can "pickpocket" Ronald and place one of the Naughty Nightwears on him. After doing this and talking to Ronald again, the dialog for Grady will show up. After selling it to him you can pickpocket him again to take back the other Naughty Nightwear and sell that one to him also. NOTE when you pickpocket him and place the first Naughty Nightwear on him you will lose karma (5) for it. When taking the second one back this player didn't lose karma. Then following through with the Grady dialog again and choosing the second speech option "Sure, here you go.", Ronald will pay you anyway (200 caps) and you gain karma. So essentially you wind up with no net change in karma plus 400-500 caps.
- It is possible that, after selling the Naughty Nightwear to Ronald Laren in Girdershade, it will not be on his person, whether to pickpocket or to loot after killing him. This may occur if wearing the Naughty Nightwear when the exchange is made, or possibly because the Naughty Nightwear was fully repaired before handing it to him. (Xbox 360, needs confirmation)
