Sounds like you've been spending too much time with your nose in those darned comic books, sport.

George Neusbaum[1] is one of the inhabitants of Vault 112 and part of the Tranquility Lane virtual reality simulation, still alive in Fallout 3.

Background[]

Resident ID 374 in lounger 37,[1] George is one of Stanislaus Braun's victims, tormented for the past 200 years by Vault-Tec Corporation's former head of Future-Tec. His suffering was a source of much amusement to Braun, especially in Toucan Lagoon, where he was often devoured by mako sharks. When Neusbaum's cries of agony while being eaten alive ceased to amuse the sadistic genius, he reset the simulation, first to Slalom Chalet, then to the nostalgic Tranquility Lane.[2]

Here, George was brainwashed to be the head of the Neusbaum household, proud husband of Pat and father of Timmy, with an honorable discharge from the American military. Braun ensured some friction within the family: Timmy was set to be a weakling, easily tormented by Betty (Braun's form within the simulation), which led Neusbaum to consider sending his son to a military academy, where he'd be toughened up - enough to face the real world that would never come.[Non-game 1] The only thing that comes is torment at the hands of Braun, preying on Neusbaum's love and close relationship with his family, especially Timmy.[3] In fact, the very mention of Betty is enough to shake him to the core, with George struggling to maintain his happy, carefree persona.[4]

George is generally on good terms with other victims within Tranquility Lane, even with the seemingly senile Old Lady Dithers.[5] His wife, Pat, dislikes Dithers and routinely tries to get George to keep Timmy away from her, so that she wouldn't influence him with her "crazy". George typically plays it off as Timmy's politeness, however.[6] He's also on good terms with Roger Rockwell, apparently oblivious to the marital strife that plagues him and Janet.[7] The Rockwells and the Neusbaums regularly play bridge together - whenever Roger isn't in the basement all night.[8]

When it comes to women, he's faithful to Pat, but likes to stay on top of the local gossip, the main source of which is Mabel Henderson. His wife isn't too keen on her or her gossiping, and George loves to tease Pat over it.[9] He's also fond of Mabel's pies, though he gets tired quickly of her boasting about her "fancy oven."[10]

His vital signs after 200 years of imprisonment are 75 bpm pulse, blood pressure is 118/82 mmHG, temperature 37.056°C or 98.7°C, with a respiratory rate of 17 breaths per minute and nominal levels of stress: Perfectly normal for an adult male.[1]

  2. Tranquility Lane terminal entries: "I've finally come to the realization that the Toucan Lagoon simulation has run its course.
I'm tired of the beating sun and ceaseless pounding of the lagoon's waves upon the shore. I no longer take pleasure in watching Simpson wither away from scurvy, or hearing Neusbaum's screams as he's devoured by the mako shark.
I am, quite simply, bored. It is time to reset the simulation once again.
    I haven't been skiing in ages. "
  3. The Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about Timmy Neusbaum?"
George Neusbaum: "My boy Timmy? Good kid. Straight-laced, good head on his shoulders. Never been in so much as a fist-fight. We're a close-knit family. Don't know what any of us would do if something happened..."
    (George Neusbaum's dialogue)
  4. Lone Wanderer: "Who is Betty?"
George Neusbaum: "Betty? Well... She's Betty. You know. You really shouldn't keep her waiting."
  5. George Neusbaum: "Hey there, sport! Beautiful day, isn't it? Say, you should go talk to Betty. She's waiting for you over on the playground. Have fun, sport!"
    (George Neusbaum's dialogue)
  6. Pat Neusbaum: "George, I thought I told you to have a talk with Timmy about Old Lady Dithers."
George Neusbaum: " Hey, aren't you the one who said we shouldn't call her that? That we should show a little respect to the elderly?" or ""Old Lady Dithers"? I thought you were the one who said we should be nice, and refer to her as "Ms. Dithers"."
Pat Neusbaum: " It's not funny, George. I'm not joking around." or "That's not the point and you know it. Don't try and change the subject."
George Neusbaum: " Yes, dear. Sorry. Is there a problem? or Okay, okay. Sorry. What's the problem now?"
Pat Neusbaum: " She's been talking to Timmy again. I want him to stay away from her. She's nuts, and she shouldn't be anywhere near him." or "I saw Timmy talking to her again. I don't want him near her, George. She's crazy, and I don't want it influencing him. You need to say something."
George Neusbaum: " Okay, I'll have another chat with him about it. I'm sure he was only being polite." or "All right... I'll talk to him about it. She's harmless, anyway. Just old and senile."
  7. George Neusbaum: "Good day to you, sir! Everything going well at home?" or "Hi, Roger. How are you? And how's that wife of yours?"
Roger Rockwell: "Oh, things are great. Just great. Really." or"Yes, of course. I'm fine, Janet's fine. Everything is just fine. And... And you?"
George Neusbaum: "Good to hear. I'm glad the two of you are doing well, after everything you've been through." or "That's good. We were worried about you two for a while. You deserve to be happy."
  8. Janet Rockwell: "Should I invite the Neusbaums over for Bridge, or will you be down in the basement all night again?" or "Hi, Roger. Are you planning on spending the evening down in the basement again?"
  9. George Neusbaum: "What's the latest gossip from Mabel? " or "So, heard anything good from Mabel lately? "
Pat Neusbaum: "Oh, stop it. You know I don't trust that woman one bit. "or "George, honestly. You know I don't like talking to her. "
George Neusbaum: " Pat, you know as well as I do that she's where most of our news comes from, one way or another." or "Suddenly you don't have an interest in hearing what's going on in town? I find that hard to believe."
Pat Neusbaum: "Well I'm not going to go running off to hear what she has to say today. Now find something useful to do." or "I don't have to like that she's such a busybody, do I? Now leave me alone about it."
George Neusbaum: "Ha ha. All right, dear." or "Okay, okay! Just having a little fun."
  10. Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about Mabel Henderson?"
George Neusbaum: "She sure loves baking her pies. Always bringing them around, bragging about her fancy oven. I'm not one to turn down a good pie, but it gets a bit tiresome hearing her go on and on."

    "George Neusbaum:
Married to Pat and the father of Timmy, George is becoming increasingly concerned that his kid isn't "tough" enough. If he can't survive a 10-year old female bully named Betty, what's Timmy going to be like in the real world? Perhaps the military can teach him a thing or two; it didn't do George any harm."
