As some of you may have noticed on other wikis, such as Red Dead Wiki or SWTOR Wiki, Wikia has recently introduced an Achievement extension.
The goal of achievements is to help encourage people to make more edits and contribute to the wiki. They also help brand new people get a feel for what they can do on the wiki by showing them various challenges. Awards are only available for logged-in users, so they’ll help encourage people to log in when they’re making edits. You can see an achievement leaderboard here. Badges that you've earned and a list of the challenges that are available for you will also show up on your user page.
The Vault has been chosen by Wikia as one of the wikis for early achievement rollout, but any feedback on them is welcome. It's also up to the community to decide whether we should have them activated right away, or maybe wait until around the premiere of New Vegas. Of course, they have also some disadvantages - some people might start doing nonsensical edits just for achievement boosting, but I think that as long as this behavior is adequately punished by blocking said users, it won't be much of an issue.
Admins are able to customize the names and pictures used in the achievement awards so that they fit a given community. If you have any suggestions for good Fallout-sounding achievement names, post them here! We'd like all of them to have Vault Boy images with appropriately sounding names (not necessarily existing perk names). Ausir(talk) 12:29, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Any good ideas? Ausir(talk) 12:51, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Feedback[]
I guess that sums up the basic ones. I had an idea, Ausir: Speedster: Make 2 edits 10 seconds apart from each other. I'll try to think some more up. By the way, are these achievements going to be like user boxes or something classier? Nukey (talk) (blog) 12:57, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- You can see how they look like on a user page at e.g. w:c:reddead:User:Ausir. For now, only the ones above will be available, but maybe later additional ones will be introduced too. Ausir(talk) 12:58, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- What if I had already done those before the achievements were introduced? Will I still get them? Nukey (talk) (blog) 13:01, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Well, I think that the basic edit count ones should be directly related to Vault life.
- It came in from the Wastes (or whatever that thing on NMA says!) - 1
- Vault Garbage burner - 5
- Vault massuse - 10
- Vault security - 25
- Vault Underseer - 50
- Vault Overseer - 100
- Vault escape artist - 250
- Tunnel Snake - 500
Maybe something along the lines of "surviving" for the time related ones. (Related to olde Fallout level up rep titles?)
And the picture ones just scream "Slaver!" to me. Dunno. :D Nitty Tok. 13:06, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
"Into the Wastes" for when you register --96.243.180.163 16:13, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- Well, maybe "It came in from the Wastes" for when you register. The Caffinated one can stay just like it is if we want it to, just plug in the Nuka-Cola Challenge quest picture. Maybe something about Dugan, if not? Nitty Tok. 17:13, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
It seems a lot of these would work with vault slapped in front of them. Only a few would even need other modifications. e.g. 'Bridge Builder' becomes "Vault Tunnel Builder/Tunnel Builder".--Master of cheeZ 17:20, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I think that some of them shouldn't be strictly Vault-y. The picture achievements just scream "Slaver badges!" at me, and I could see us working a lot of silly things into them. Nitty Tok. 17:23, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Rep levels[]
- Vault Trainee - 0 -> 25 mainspace edits
- Vault Junior Tech - 26 -> 100 edits
- Vault Tech - 101 -> 200 edits
- Vault Senior Tech - 201 -> 300 edits
- Vault Operator - 301 -> 500 edits
- Vault Analyst - 501 -> 1000 edits
- Vault Senior Analyst - 1001 -> 2500 edits
- Vault Data Miner - 2501 -> 5000 edits
- Vault Director - 5001 and more edits
That's my take on it. Remember, achievements are supposed to be achievements, not consolation prizes. Tagaziel (call!) 18:08, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe to add on to Mikael's list, you can add the Lone Wanderer for 10,000 edits, the Chosen One for 20,000 edits, and then the Vault Dweller for 30,000 edits. TrailerParkApe 19:22, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- But there's only going to be so many people that get above 5000 edits. Nitty Tok. 19:24, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
That's true. The one's I mentioned maybe can be for the special people that want to achieve, haha. Or they can always be moved into a different category of their own. It would be cool to have those three names as achievements because they are the main characters of the non spin off Fallout games. Maybe we can even throw in the spin off names too, like the Courier. TrailerParkApe 19:29, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- In order of awesomeness, to boot. :P
- I think 5000's enough, though. There's plenty of other silly stuff we could do. Nitty Tok. 19:34, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, you can do something else for them outside of total edits. For the list you can start off with the least cool protagonist and work your way up to the Vault Dweller. TrailerParkApe 19:42, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Just wanted to say that while the above names are cool, we can't actually change the achievements themselves for now (aside from adding achievements for editing pages in specific categories) - they are described in the section above this one. We can only change the names and pictures. However, the final achievement of each track is repeatable, e.g. you get the one for 500 edits for every 500 edits made (for your 1000th, 1500th etc. edit). Maybe there will be more customization possible in the future, though. :) Ausir(talk) 19:53, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- I made them with the future in mind. Ausir, did you bug the management about changing the requirements already? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tagaziel (talk • contribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
- No, but as I said, the final achievement in each track is repeatable, so it's not much of an issue. If anything, I think there will be additional types of achievements rather than existing tracks being longer. Ausir(talk) 20:09, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- DON'T BRING THEM HERE! I come from the Resistance Wiki, and they recently started thede up. It's just led to peopel exploting it, adding pointless pages, making meaningless edits, and general spaming. Great idea and everything but it ruins the wiki a bit. Please, please dont do it. Peace out.
- JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?" 20:14, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
I think using the Karma ranks of Fallout would be great names (i.e. evil names for images, neutral for editing, good for categories). They come with images so it should save quite some time. Mark (talk) 20:44, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- So you become the Savior of the Damned by adding categorys to 10 pages? We can get more creative than that. :P Nitty Tok. 22:54, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
A few suggestions of mine (mostly perk-based):
- Editing your user page for the first time -> Rad Child
- Leaving someone a message on their talk page -> Good Natured
- Making 100 edits on pages in a single day -> Psychotic or Lead Foot
- Adding 1 page to a category -> Domesticated
- Adding 5 pages to a category -> Tech Wizard
- Adding 10 pages to a category -> Mr. Fixit
- Adding 25 pages to a category -> Tight Nuts
- Adding 50 pages to a category -> Scrounger
- Adding 100 pages to a category -> Pack Rat
- Adding 250 pages to a category -> Strong Back
I like "Into the wastes" for the "signing up" achievement - maybe we could use File:Critters8zp.png for that? Negotiator, Speaker, Magnetic Personality and Good Natured (if it isn't used for the talk page one) could probably be used in the blog/blog comment tracks somewhere. Gifted is another name/image which could be used, not sure where though. -- Porter21 (talk) 11:19, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Quote: On a wiki with many active admins enforcing the rules, like this one, I don't think it will be that much of an issue. Ausir(talk) 20:15, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
We're you just trying to insult my wiki?! You nothing about it.
- No, I'm not saying that it's bad, just saying that we have more active administrators here, so it will be easier to enforce it. Ausir(talk) 14:26, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Here's what I got for comment writing:
- The Blog Warrior - writing a comment on 3 different blog posts
- A Boy and His Keyboard - writing a comment on 10 different blog posts
I might make more achievement names later for the "wiki love" achievements. Shadowrunner56 18:01, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Here are some of mine:
- Mutate - Make X amount of edits
- Rad-ical editor - make X amount of edits
- FEV - Contribute 1,000 bytes of info to a page
- Bloody Mess - Fix up a stub page so that it is no longer a stub
- Survivor - Make 50 edits without any being undone
- Survival Expert - Make 100 edits without any being undone
Also considering New vegas will be coming out I thoought I'll make a special one just for that.
- Welcome to
LasNew Vegas - Contribute 100 edits to any New vegas related page
That's all I got for now. Mr Zurkon 13:34, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
Please keep in mind that new achievements cannot be added at this time (as Ausir has said a few times already). Currently, we're simply looking for Fallout-themed names and images for the existing ones (those which are listed at the beginning of the thread). -- Porter21 (talk) 13:50, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
I have some ideas for images to use. I figure it would take up too much space if I put them here, so I arranged them in a table of examples on my userpage: Achievement icon ideas. I used mostly Fallout 3 icons just because they are more colorful. I suppose if you did use perk images from the other games someone would take care of coloring them for consistency? ~ Gardimuer { ʈalk } 22:05, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
- I like those, Gardimuer. I'm thinking that the icons should be in black and white, though, 'cause it's more retro-ness. Nitty Tok. 16:40, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
Oh ok, I just thought an achievement like "make X amount of edits without being undone" would stop a lot of spamming and trolls. That way people can't make useless edits. Edit track:
- W
elcomeaspiringeditor, enjoyyourstay- 1 mainspace edit(Maybe a little long) - Third Arm - 5 edits
- Mutate! - 10 edits
- You drank glowing water, didn't you? - 25 edits
- Rad-ical Editor - 50 edits
- FEV - 100
- You're a hero, but don't leave! - 250
Pictures track:
- Hey, it still works! - adding 1 picture to an article(have a picture of the Fallout 3 camera)
- Raider Graffiti Artist - 5 pictures
- D.C Postcard - 10 pictures have like a picture of the destroyed Washington Monument or something like that)
- Scenic Overlook - 25 pictures
That's it for now. Mr Zurkon 06:16, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
More Ideas
I think some should be named after quests, as well. For example, a good name for the "Making a Difference" medal would be "Picking up the Trail." -- CoD addict · (talk) 16:47, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

- Ug. That looks like Halopedia's "User levels" system. :P As far as I know, this forum topic is not for suggesting other systems related to achievements; it is just for picking names/images for said achievements... ~ Gardimuer { ʈalk } 20:54, August 21, 2010 (UTC)
Should we activate them now? Tezzla Cannon 19:30, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
- 1) The Vault is going to be a hive of activity from new and unregistered users for the next couple of months. This doesn't necessarily mean they will all be vandalism or whatnot, but the release of New Vegas will require a bunch of attention from Admins until the hype calms down.
- 2) I personally don't fancy the achievement system at all, but that doesn't really influence my reasoning to leave it out of the vault until things calm down a little bit. We also have to prepare for the inevitable drop of the Monaco skin that is just within weeks of happening. At least give the Vault a chance to get things in order, sound good Tezzla?
- - Ghouly89 (Talk) 05:14, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
- I agree. We dhould wait until things calm down. veryblackravenTalk 12:02, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
I'm in favor to try it out. I've noticed things have quieted down and this could give The Vault some new inspiration and motivation for users to contribute. Not to mention my personal interest. Jspoel 08:55, April 7, 2011 (UTC)
- I agree. :) veryblackravenTalk 07:06, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
