So, it's mentioned that Dr. Zimmer is away on a special assignment in the Fallout 4 base game, I totally thought that we would see him in a DLC released several months after the base game that heavily revolves around Synths, yet not even a mention.

Guys, you know that conversation when you meet DIMA where he asks if you're a synth and one of the options is to mention that your first memory is the day the bombs fell (a reference to the beginning of the game)? What if you really are a synth and a part of Zimmer's elaborate plan to take over the Institute by making a synth posing as Father's dad? Think about it, DiMa has a point, we don't actually have any genuine verification that our character has any memories before the day the bombs fell. I mean, hell, if you think about it, when you go to the memory den and you ask to relive your memories, that might have been the developers being lazy or maybe they're hinting at the fact that you really don't have any memories before what you see in the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tausendberg (talkcontribs). He's like 70 years old in Fallout 3, he's probably dead by the time Fallout 4 rolls around. Okay that was an exaggeration but still, he's an old guy in Fallout 3, it's very possible that he'd be dead in Fallout 4. Sigmund Fraud Talk Contributions 23:16, July 1, 2016 (UTC)
That would be a fair assessment except it appears that, unless you have a very aggressive form of cancer like Father, the average Institute denizen seems to have a significantly extended lifespan. Kellogg for example, I think he was supposed to be 80 or something but he looked like he was 40, in part due to cybernetics. So, I don't think Zimmer's age is really a limiting factor for him. Another reasonable guess would be he is simply away on another mission. He traveled the roughly 7 hour trip (by car, so naturally on foot it would be days) to Washington D.C. from the Institute. He's definitely a member of the SRB and goes out on these long trips frequently, especially since the Railroad apparently has success with getting synths away from the Institute that far. Don't forget that Kellogg was cybernetically enhanced, so his life span likely isn't the same as an Institute scientists's, even one as important as Zimmer. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 07:03, July 2, 2016 (UTC)

He is old. And in the wasteland, where the average lifespan is made even shorter. An old man, with a bodyguard, and frequently carrying cargo, since he is out hunting escaped synths at times, would make him a very interesting target.

He's not all that important, and he has made a very little impact in both games where his name is mentioned. I wouldn't give him much more thought. 寧靜 Fox 00:15, July 2, 2016 (UTC)

I just looked through all the speech options... It's actually impossible for the player character to mention a moment earlier than the beginning of the game with the conversation with DiMa. Tausendberg (talk) 04:52, July 2, 2016 (UTC)

Zimmer's special assignment is helping to feed Rivet City's local wildlife. The fish are particularly fond of him. XxSick DemonxX (talk) 06:24, July 2, 2016 (UTC)

Quite possibly Dead. I mean, According to the Institute's files (In the SRB section), He disappeared in 2077. I'm guessing that he was either assassinated, betrayed the Institute (which is another way to die), killed by the Lone Wanderer in The Replicated Man, or killed by Harkness TAOA 15:07, July 2, 2016 (UTC)
