Forums: Index > Off-topic discussion > What should Fallout 4 take from Skyrim?

So I've been playing Skyrim for quite some time now, and may I say, it is the best game Bethesda has released so far. Wonderful graphics, simpler menu interface and an amazing story all wrapped in one perfect package. But we all know Fallout 4 is right behind it, so it's time to make a wishlist. What can Fallout 4 take from Skyrim to improve it's game plan and become the new Skyrim? Here's my list, feel free to add your own.

1. Dual wielding. Definitely needs dual wielding.

2. Removal of useless skills. Survival, although a nice touch of realism in Fallout 2 and New Vegas, was ultimately a waste of skill points. Same goes for throwing, considering we have grenade launchers now.

3. Dynamic world. Loved the removal of the close up interaction that freezes time and the NPC's no longer having the same conversations over and over.

4. Giant encounters. We've all come across the giants of Skyrim. And we all know what happens when you mess with them. BANG! ZOOM! TO THE MOON! It's hilarious. That should be how Super Mutants should work. I never understood why people are afraid of them, but they go down easy like raiders. Super Mutants should be the Giants of Fallout. Do not eff with them unless you are a bad ass.

5. Marriage. Nothing wrong with having a spouse make caps for you. Huge improvement from Fable II's "OMG I NEED YOU HERE AT ALL TIMES" super clingy wives. That is annoying. Skyrim marriages are simple. You adventure, they work, you see them when you can. They know you're busy. You have stuff to do. Let them hold the fort while you do what you do. And it's super awesome that no one cares that you are gay.

6. Dragon Shouts. Okay maybe not Dragon Shouts, but they are one of the funnest ways to kick ass. I'd love for something that epic to be in Fallout 4. A weapon that just literally blows people away. It's just good old fashioned fun.

So that's all I got. What's yours?

1. Dual wielding: YEEEESS!!!

2. Removal of useless skills: I agree, just make recipe lists and keep their benefits the same, survival was toooo extensive to be necessary. Make lockpicking a proficiency or something too.

3. Dynamic world: That's not only needed, it's expected.

4. Giant encounters: I don't know... maybe more powerful supermutants? They'll just be shooting at you though, and I'm not sure Bethesda could pull off mutants again without getting too much flak for repetivity.

5. Marriage: Sure, why not, I already customize my house for aesthetic appeal anyway.

6. Dragon Shouts: LOL, I think V.A.T.S. makes up for this, maybe better V.A.T.S. or something? GASP! What if you could slow down time with melee/unarmed weapons using V.A.T.S.?! Definately should be a perk.

7. Layaway Perks: don't want to allocate it, don't have to. But then, I could just get the most powerful perks... hmm... maybe keep them on layaway for the level you got them at and nothing more.

8. Perk Trees: NO, I don't like these, I'll take what I want and skip the rest.

9. Skill Leveling System: I don't know about this one, Fallout's system allows me to be good at what I don't use and that incentivizes me to use them more, but it also forces me to power level. Whereas Skyrim's system makes me really want to exploit the game by finding an easy way to achieve it, and even then it takes awhile for a few of them. Perhaps a different one entirely?

10. Dragons!: NO, but vertibird mechanics based off of them possibly giving you the ability to own one without it feeling like a mod, YES!

11. Snow: No, no more snow, seriously I'm sick of snow thanks to Skyrim.

12. Better armor: = better power armor... 'nuff said.

That's all I got for now, me --The Ever Ruler 05:19, February 12, 2012 (UTC)

There are quite a few things I'd like to see carried over from Skyrim to Fallout 4.

1. Skyrim's skill leveling system is an absolute want.

2. Weather system similar to the one in Skyrim, including falling snow.

3. No dual wielding. I'm sorry but I don't want to feel like I'm playing an FPS where dual wielding can be done.

4. Being able to use a vehicle could be good, if done correctly.

5. The Survival perk in Fallout New Vegas is very useful where crafting is involved. Having a high enough Survival level allowed you to craft chems, food items, etc.

6. I'd like to see Armor Repair Kits. They would be similar to the Weapon Repair kits in Fallout New Vegas, except they do exactly as the name implies. ARK's would be way more efficient than having to go to a shop to have the shop keeper fix the armor for an unholy amount of caps. I'd also like to see the Weapon Repair Kits make a comeback. They were really useful, regardless of your Repair skill level.

7. I'm sort of borderline on marriage. In Skyrim, all you had to do was wear the Amulet of Mara, then the marriage option would be available. I'm not sure how it could be implemented in Fallout 4.

8. In Skyrim you could improve weapons and armor. I'd like to have that same ability in Fallout 4.

That's all I can think of for now. If I come up with anything else, I'll start my own forum thread.--Ryker6123:21, March 2, 2012 (UTC)~3:18pm 3/2/2012

Here's my personal list:

1.Definitely needs a dynamic weather system similar to Skyrim. Whether (pun heehee) it is rain, snow (please give us some snow in Fallout. Deserts are SO tedious), or sandstorms, it needs to have actual weather patterns like Skyrim.

2.I like the idea of dual-wielding. I would sometimes wish while playing New Vegas that I could dual wield 9mm Pistols or .44 Magnums.

3.Marriage could be good, but it would probably require a re-introduction of religion, sorta like the church in Rivet City on FO3.

4.A leadership system, like when you become Guild Master in Skyrim. But an IMPROVED leadership system, so that it's not like "Hey, you're our new leader! Here's some armor and a living area. Have fun! Oh, yeah, you can't give us any duties or orders, but we can still ask you to do quests for us."

5.Perk trees. Well, not trees per se, but maybe just split perks up based on their associated skill.

6.Perk layaway.

7.Some kind of vehicle system, maybe like the carts that take you to the major cities on Skyrim.

8. Ability to hire random sellswords.

9. Open-ended questlines. It pisses me off when I beat NV in the middle of 9 questlines, and don't have the opportunity to finish them. I mean, they pulled this off with the Broken Steel expansion to FO3, why not make it an integral part of the game?

and finally,
10. Creation kit for the PC version, of course!

Thanks, mates ATCaver 21:05, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

The seamless HUD, a big improvement that makes play more immersive. 3 autosaves, makes it easier to go back and try something different. more clothing slots, better taylors the character to the players goals. Flying enemies. Better graphics. That's it, I didn't like Skyrim. Too juvenile, too la-de-da. Too easy to be over-powered. A player could power-level Smithing and break the game. Cardboard followers. "pretty much anything to suit your needs". Not enough crazy people and crazy situations. Not enough moral choices.

Things to add to Fallout 4 . Not much, I love FONV and have for over 2000 hours. Still, here's my wish list. Reduce crashes and freezes, please ! No more floating rocks. Natural barriers, no more "you can't go that way". More schematics and quest-related crafting. Not so many good weapons, more crafted weapons and armor. No Wild Wasteland trait, it should be a given in a Fallout game. Hard Core only. Vehicles and flight, I want to (steal) drive a Corvega. I want to fight a Floater. a tougher Centaur. I want to have to run from some fights. I want to target body parts in Melee and Unarmed. More responses for a "Stupid Game". a Intimidation speach check for a bad karma player. Having sex should give +1 Charisma and -1 Endurance. Puzzles. Churches. More comedy. "I'm going to eat the next rat I see". Above all else, retain the grittyness and desperation. Squalor 23:37, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

I didn't see most of these above above:

  • Better graphics- kind of a given though
  • Melee kill finishing moves. We alreaedy have that slow-mo cam for bullets in VATS and as an option for normal fire, but there really isn't anything for melee combat. Even if I have 100 unarmed it doesn't make much sense to use it; I have 3 rifles, a grenade launcher, and shotgun that work just as well. Finishing moves at least make melee combat look really cool.
  • Melee attacks with ranged weapons. Sometimes you have to reload, sometimes you get caught sniping, or maybe you just emptied your last clip. Being able to fight back when you're caught in a tight spot would be more than useful...maybe even kill cams for this too.
  • Dual weilding. More damage at a reduced accuracy with for longer reloads would keep the system balanced, and it would be interesting to see what perks could go here.
  • Sprint. Because sometimes you're in a hurry.
  • Snow...and maybe other weather too. Maybe.
  • Oghma Infinium like exploit. Is it cheap? Yeah. There's a sense of satisfaction that comes from allocating your final points after carefully having maped out everything and collecting every skill book so that you can finally say you have the ultimate player. But by the third time you've grinded your way through, unable to do any quest out of an OCD like fear that you'll miss a diologue option even when you know everything every NPC will ever say isn't all that great. The ability to power level isn't always a bad thing.
  • Customize EVERYTHING. You know what Skyrim doesn't do this. Scars and face paint was all that was really added, but most things were even less than Oblivion, which had fewer options than Morrowind. I want Saints Row 2 customization, or at least as close as Bethesda can get. Weapons too, and I'm not even asking for gaudy colors, just the ability to paint it black...or silver. Maybe I want an ivory handled revolver in stead of a wooden grip, why not? More is better.

XxSick DemonxX

I also agree that Skyrim is the best thing Bethesda has released so far, as a matter of fact I was very dissapointed with Fallout: New Vegas after I saw what Skyrim was (keep in mind both games where released with just one year of difference, and Fallout 3 and New Vegas with about 3 years, and the mechanics were pretty unchanged). Does anybody know if they're working on a new Fallout that would somewhat borrow things from Skyrim? BTW obviously I want the mechanics, the interactive gameplay, the crafting and upgrade systems and character costumization features from Skyrim in a new fallout game...Captain Underpants 14:05, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

  • Dual-wielding - absolutely not. It's not realistic, and it'll make the game look like Brotherhood of Steel. Fuck Brotherhood of Steel.
  • Removal of useless skills - why don't we just remove all the skills completely and make the game an FPS? I mean, they're all useless.

NO. NO and NO. Instead of deleting skills, they should fix them. It's just as easy as that.

  • Dynamic world - yes, but Bethesda isn't really good at doing this. At least, they'll probably sacrifice this for some new 'cool' features like dual-wielding and removing all skills. I'd love to have a more dynamic world, but it'd be foolish to think they'll make one.
  • Giant encounters - sure, but the game shouldn't just turn into a huge borefest.
  • Marriage? No. This isn't Sims. This isn't some life simulator. They'd basically have to create a whole new scene for the marriage, instead of making a more dynamic world, where people'd make caps for you or defend your house or whatever.
  • Badass weapons - they already are there. --89.203.186.226 14:23, May 14, 2012 (UTC)

Dual wielding unrealistic? Un-dynamic world by adding one thing? Marriage requiring new scene? Did you actually play Skyrim past the title screen? Bethesda can do all I have stated. Hence the title "What should Fallout 4 take from Skyrim?" All of the things I mentioned are IN Skyrim, a Bethesda made game. They can do this without sacrificing anything and keeping it Fallout.

  • They removed the useless skill of Mysticism and just moved the spells to existing skill trees. Move throwing to Explosives. Move Survival to Medicine. No one will miss it.
  • Marriage works great for those having a tough time scavenging for caps and ammo. Plus it adds a touch of realism to the game. I can understand the Lone Wanderer never wanting to be tied down, but as a Courier with my head partially blown off, I'd like to have someone to go home to back in Goodsprings, New Vegas or wherever I choose to stay. Plus, free sex!
  • Dual wielding is more realistic than the current weapon set up. Why am I holding the gun with one hand while my arm hangs lifeless at my side? It should be doing SOMETHING.
  • An undynamic world by adding/removing features? That's just complete brahmin chips.
  • Giants a borefest? Everytime I see Mammoths in the world, I know to steer clear of that area. That's what meeting a Super Mutant should feel like. If I see corpses hanging by their feet over street signs, metal barricades in front of an open area or a few holes in the wall that look like someone slammed a sledgehammer into them, I should feel uneasy and question if there is another way around, not go "OOH! Maybe one of these guys will drop some rifle ammo for me!"

Skyrim was an amazing game and Fallout 4 should be equally if not more amazing. MoonshadowDark

Dual wielding. Duh. Nice to have two daggers or pistols. Possible one of each.

Varied armor? It was cool that two people could have fur armor but look different. Maybe just have a menu where you select what features to have on your armor. Or use a workbench. Also you should be able to have more body slots. Not just this is your clothes but you have this jacket with these pants and your gloves of choice. Obviously many of the fallout clothes need a most of their own stuff to look nice but why can't i just throw on the ranger vet coat over my normal clothes and put on some cool half-finger gloves?

Weather? Yes!

Mounts would be nice. If appropriate. Wouldn't want them in Fallout 3 but Vegas was very western. I want to hop off my horse and walk into the saloon after a hard day of killing comies. Excuse me, legionaries.

Sprint is a great feature.

I don't know about improving weapons and armor. The weapon modding is great but the Skyrim system is kinda broken. If you focused on smithing and enchanting you didn't even need skill. You could become invincible. Or pretty close at least.

Marriage.

Melee kill cam.

A lot more preset faces. Ones that look good.

The ability to change your height? It would be cool, but from what I hear it means you have to have different meshes of all the clothes for each body type.

Bigger focus on your karma. (not really from Skyrim, more like Fallout 3) The factions where nice but they ended up defining your character instead of your morality doing so.

Faction side quest. I want to join the regulators or Followers(or some other group) and have specific quest for them that have nothing to do with the main quest.

1. Dual wielding is obviously a given

2. Craftable armor/weapons

3. Leveling system-I love being able to increase skills but using them more!

4. Cars or mutant or SOMETHING to get around walking/jogging is too slow

5. Sprinting

6. Location appropriate weather-if you were in the mountains in Skyrim, you knew there'd be a lot of snow

7. Mannikins and shelves you can interact with-one thing I loved about Skyrim is I could put my armour on a mannikin and my books on shelves

8. Books you can interact with- I loved collecting books in Skyrim because of the short stories they had you could read when you didn't feel like heading out and killing dragons Megan140 (talk) 01:54, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

I despise Skyrim because it's dumbed down trash, so almost nothing.

All of the above will ruin Fallout and dumb it down for the lazy. You people should be ashamed of your opinions.

  • I see casuals all over in these comments. You just want another shooter like Call of Duty. I want Fallout 4 to have survival. I had to mod Fallout 3 to death just to include as much survival elements as possible. 70.188.161.127 06:29, October 22, 2013 (UTC)

1. No dual wielding. It comes across as woefully impractical and unless your accuracy takes one hell of a hit it just doesn't make sense. It's difficult enough shooting one weapon small enough to dual wield accurately in a rapid fire scenario, keeping the shots on target, reacquiring the target quickly, accounting for recoil, with just one gun. Now add in a second one. You can't even make sure both are on target cause you can only look down the sights of one gun.

2. Add more skills. I want to be able to completely customize the way I play to my play style, and, in certain scenarios, things like survival make sense to me. I'd love to be able to use that skill to make traps.

3. Hell yes, Dynamic world.

4. I'd love to see some greater variety in both armor and weapons. FO3 was shit for both. New Vegas was better in both regards but I still felt like there wasn't much variety for energy weapons (granted I didn't use them, but all the same...)

5. I want a customizable home. Like the homesteads in the Hearthstone DLCs. I'm not talking hugely involved things, but I'd love more customization than I got in FO3 and something better than the "you decorate it" approach of New Vegas.

6. I'd love some sort of vehicle or beast of burden, be it a car, a motorcycle or a brahim pulling a cart, something that would allow me to move a bit faster, but more importantly that could haul all the things I found.

7. Spouses would be neat, but if they're gonna do the whole shop shit I want to see them manning a shop stall or somethign to that effect, not just wandering around.

8. Crafting is always nice.

Just my thoughts. In the end though I can't think of much from Skyrim or Oblivion or other Beth games that at their core would be a nice fit in Fallout. Richie9999 (talk) 00:21, June 8, 2015 (UTC)
