I was reading about the Fallout Series on this Wiki and I was just curious. Who owns the franchise now? I thought a while back the news page here said that Interplay had gotten the rights back >_> But the Fallout Series page said Bethesda owns all rights, and the interplay page says nothing about getting anything.
So I just want to know. What's going on right now?

A complicated question which cannot be answered easily. I'm guessing that when Betheseda's rights time (when they make their last game) thaeir rights expire. So then Interplay would get their sold (!) rights back. For now, Betheseda is in charge, but I hope something happens so they would make more than one game (i don't want to play in 2-D, makes things complicated and stupid). Thanks :D When I heard that Interplay might be getting the rights back I was so furious that I pretty much gave up on Fallout especially when it said Interplay wanted to "Undermine" Fallout 3. That might be just gossip though. To me the only reason Interplay got anywhere in the trial was through sleazy loopholes. And I swore if Bethesda never made another Fallout game then the series would be nothing to me anymore. I kept thinking... why not just team up and make a Fallout game together because they're both good with the series in their own ways and could make the ultimate Fallout game. Then I remembered "This is reality..." :( ) Moogleknight24 12:31, September 10, 2011 (UTC)Moogleknight24
Although it "pains" me to say, that will never happen. Each company wants to get more profit, siding with a one is certainly not on their priority list. And truth be told, Interplay is in history, I highly doubt their Fallout games they will make (if they make) will be good. MysteryStranger 12:40, September 10, 2011 (UTC)
As much as I loved Fallout 1 & 2, the planning of games like Fallout Extreme leave me with negative feelings at how Interplay will handle the series. Bethesda, for all its flaws, at least tried to bring the post-apocalyptic feeling back into Fallout and allowed Obsidian to bring back the true Fallout feel in New Vegas. --Fezgod 13:36, September 10, 2011 (UTC)
I think whatever new game Interplay makes is going to bomb because Fallout 3 was a phenomenal success and when fans find out the next game "Isn't made by Bethesda" they probably won't want anything to do with it. It wasn't really the Fallout name that sold Fallout 3 (Since a huge chunk of hardcore Fallout fans and gamers in general were introduced to the series starting with 3) it was Bethesda that made the game awesome. Fallout 3 outsold 1, 2 and Tactics combined at it's launch alone. (According to "Guinness Book of World Records Gamers Edition" which has two whole pages dedicated to the Fallout series) Moogleknight24 20:05, September 10, 2011 (UTC)Moogleknight24
