Current Policy: [[1]]

The current policy towards spoilers says that, in general, the whole wiki is considered a spoiler. I understand that and agree with the idea behind it. However, there is a large enough difference between story spoilers and content/mechanic spoilers that a change to the policy and at least one page edit is warranted.

What do I mean by 'Content/Mechanic Spoilers'? There is a reasonable expectation that if you look up a list of the available unique guns, you are going to find content spoilers for anything you have not seen before - that can be considered a spoiler and this is want I am calling a content/mechanic spoiler.

This is a night and day difference between story spoilers. That same player may avoid character info pages like the plague because they don’t want the plot to be spoiled. This is a very story driven experience and someone might want to research the content and mechanics of the game without spoiling the story.

Example and Current Issue: The example that led me to write this is located on the companion page. [[2]]

The race of each companion is listed which is a very large story spoiler for one of them. If a player wants to look up what actions will help increase their affinity with a certain companion it is a reasonable expectation that they can find that info on this wiki without having to read a rather large story spoiler without any warning.

My proposed update to the spoiler policy would read as follows:

Leave the current two bullets as is, but add this as a third bullet point:

 • Pages that are primarily related to game mechanics and item statistics should not include information that is a spoiler to the game’s story.

And then remove the entire “Race” column form the companion summary page, leaving the race information on each companion’s individual, more comprehensive, page.

The comments on this Reddit Post are an example of the issues the current policy and page can and have caused: [[3]]

No one likes for a good story to be spoiled. We all really like fallout… The page just seems very irresponsible with its current content.
