Hi guys, Been looking at Fallout 3 and was wondering if I should buy it? What do you think of the game?
Patrowles 10:39, May 29, 2012 (UTC)As a recent newcomer to this game, my advice is a definite "yes", although obviously it depends on the kinds of games you prefer.
As a long-time FPS player, I found the 'talkiness' of Fallout 3 took a bit of getting used to. There are dozens of characters to interact with, and it can often take a while to get through all the conversational options available to each one and get the maximum amount of information out of them.
It's also important to keep track of what you've been told, the attitudes and objectives of the different factions you meet, and where everything is - the DC Wastelands in which the game takes place are vast, with many locations which need revisiting several times. You need to get used to using the Pip-Boy 3000 (your in-game character's wrist computer) very early on, in order to keep track of your status, item inventory, objectives, etc.
The opening 'tutorial' stage does a good job of introducing all these concepts, and once you leave the vault the game gives you a lot of freedom with regard to what you do, how you do it, and in what order. There is usually more than one way of approaching any given problem, and you can tailor your character according to your preferred style of play as the story progresses, by allocating points to different skills.
To sum up: great story; great gameplay; great value for money (I've put in more than 90 hours so far, and there's still loads left to do and see!).Patrowles 10:39, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
