Please forward this to your very talented game design & development teams with my thanks.

Hello, I can’t say enough about how much I LOVE your Fallout 3 for windows.

I just got home from a year long deployment & with out putting too fine a point on it, I can say with all honesty, your game kept me entertained & relatively sane under insane circumstances.

As you might imagine there were few entertainment options for us in the far flung reaches of Afghanistan,

So I played a lot of Fallout 3. By the time I got back to the states I had even begun using your ingenious Garden of Eden downloads to design my own unique encounters, mini quests & custom items. I even joined a couple of online communities dedicated to sharing tips, tricks & generally celebrating your fantastic game.

Sadly though just after I got home my laptop fried, so I bought a new Dell & a new copy of Fallout 3 game of the year edition to go with it.

I was disappointed to have lost all the progress I had made but in the end I was looking forward fresh start as opportunity to do even bigger & better things with the game.

Anyway, too late to make a long story short, I was disheartened to learn that Fallout 3 dose not work with Windows 7.

Now to the point of this letter, I & many, many others I know online would pay for a downloadable patch or other DLC that would allow us to play Fallout 3 on Windows 7.

I am so shamelessly dedicated to this proposition, I’ll even play my Vet card.

Please do this old veteran of more than 26 years of ongoing military service a huge favor.

Hook us up with a Windows 7 patch we will continue to revel in your genius that is the world of Fallout 3

I wish all the best continued success & I thank you for your time.

Sincerely your humble fan, Casper

P.S.

Please do feel free contact me any time.

Please visit the Fallout 3 PC Hardware and Software issues forum on the Bethesda forums. I am using Fallout 3 on Windows 7 without difficulty. --Kris mailbox 02:09, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip Kris
But could you maybe post the exact topic heading & or maybe tell us here exactly what you did to make your game version work with Windows 7 ?
Thank you for your time .

The only significant thing I did was to install the game outside of the Program Files folders. I should mention that this is the 64-bit version of Windows 7 which theoretically should be more likely to have issues with Fallout 3. And I actually do experience one persistent issue which I think it more an issue with my sound card under Windows 7 rather than the game, in that the game will often have freezing issues when the sound is enabled in the .ini file (sometimes on game load, sometimes mid-game, always on exit, and the only times it happens is on a change of music); but I'm fairly confident that it's just the fact that I'm using an older Creative X-Fi PCI card designed for Windows 2000/XP. --Kris mailbox 02:37, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
I sorry to say I'm a total PC noob
How did you install the game outside the Program File folders ?
All I know is my Dell lap top is brand new ~ it came with windows 7 & I was told it has all the best bells & whistels for Game'n & other entertainment
I really really miss play'n Fallout 3 ~ So any help you can offer means alot to me.
It's good to be home ;) 02:54, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
Saint Pain, when you're installing FO3, it will ask you for an installation directory.
Instead of installing it to, for example, "X:\Program Files\Fallout 3",
have it install to "X:\Fallout 3", of course replacing "x" with whatever drive letter you're using.
Another thing, Fallout 3 seems to be really unstable for certain people. I, for one, am using Vista Home and for a long time had major crashing issues, sometimes not even able to open the game at all. Just follow every precaution imaginable. Shut your virus software off and close any programs that might have access to your hard drive(s) while installing. It's not an exact science... FO3 is special. PS - I know this is sort of off-topic, but if you were using the laptop in Afghanistan and had trouble when you got back, it might be worth it to pop open the case and dust it out with some canned air. A buddy of mine had the same problem after coming back from deployment and was able to get his laptop working again. There's a lot of dust out there! MFToast - talk 14:30, August 29, 2010 (UTC)
