Forums: Index > Wiki discussion > Removal of definite empty inventories

Alright mates, I know I have been bringing up a lot of discussions lately but this one I feel is necessary for pages that have definite empty inventories. If you do not know what a definite empty inventory is, it is an inventory box (such as the one posted below) that is empty and will stay empty because it is never going to have anything in it. Why remove them you say? Because there is no use for them whatsoever. It sits there like a sore.

I am asking we just remove these. There is no point of them existing other than to sit there empty and alone (forever). This would make cleaner pages and shorter pages (where needed).

Yes It's just like the infoboxes, if parts of them have no information, instead of putting a "None" or something in them, they just get that section removed and are cut down. Same logic with this. User OfficialLolGuy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  09:24, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

I don't see too much of a problem with this. It just points out they have nothing in a way you see it in an eyeblink.-- Greets 09:38, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
The lack of content does not mean a lack of information. FollowersApocalypseLogomorituri te salutamus 09:54, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
But the same logic can go for the infoboxes. User OfficialLolGuy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  09:55, December 31, 2013 (

At the moment the style guide calls inventory an essential area. I would propose:

  • the essential status be removed
  • the intersections template be expanded to include "lootable" or "drops items on death" or similar.
  • Inventory would then be listed where loot able = yes.

What about characters who are not lootable but have inventories? 69.l25 (talk) 12:44, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
Such as? JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 12:55, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
Scratch that. Yeah, saying "lootable" seems flawed, something like "has inventory" would probably be better. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 12:57, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

The fact that the inventory is empty is to show that the character has nothing in their inventory. Its not redundant, it merely shows there's nothing there. Yes Man defaultUser Avatar talk 15:03, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

I agree. Unless under special circumstances, empty inventories should stay. They show the reader that the character has nothing on them, whether alive or dead. That itself is a piece of information. --Skire (talk) 23:00, January 1, 2014 (UTC)
Agree 100%. You can glance at an empty inventory and in 0.5s you know they carry nothing. Without that, you would have to look within the wiki text and see if that information is conveyed elsewhere, and even if it is, it is not as effective or prominent as the empty inventory. From the purposes of efficiently conveying information, they should stay. FollowersApocalypseLogomorituri te salutamus 00:49, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
I agree with the three fine gentlemen above me. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 01:15, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
I second the agreement above. ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 01:51, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
But it's the same as the infoboxes. Parts of the infobox are removed when there is no information to go with them. People don't have to look through whole wiki text to see if the non-appearing segments of the infobox are conveyed elsewhere. We don't keep them to show there's no information on the subject. Which parameters are you talking about specifically? And also keep in mind that character pages with empty inventories are usually short enough, which is why I don't quite buy the "shortening pages" argument. --Skire (talk) 03:36, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
The image line of the infobox, the quest line, location line, etc. are often removed when there isn't any information to go. User OfficialLolGuy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  03:42, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
That is because the information in those parameters would either not fit the circumstances of the character, or is listed in the article body. Images are a separate matter because sometimes there is no image available -- they are not essential. --Skire (talk) 03:45, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
