I can actually see Talon Company possibly returning. Mostly because it was teased that they were looking for something in the city ruins without it ever being explained what, plus by the fact that they were being lead by almost super-natural forces. The Regulators... were just normal wastelanders with no backstory aside from cleaning up messes. But if Talon Company returns, then I'm positive that the Regulators will return. Same goes with if either are considered canon in the future. [[Special:Contributions/67.187.96.246|67.187.96.246]] 06:18, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

:Yeah but how many Regulators do you think there are? Talon Company had a whole fort, plus several outposts. The Regulators had, what...one shack? I know they can spawn as many guys as Talon Company at the ambush zones, but still. [[Special:Contributions/71.171.112.74|71.171.112.74]] 06:25, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Forums: Index > Fallout 3 general discussion > Regulators non-canon?

So I decided to go back and play Fallout 3 for a little bit just for the hell of it, and I played evil so Regulators end up hunting me. Then I started to wonder, are the Regulators even canon? We all know the canon Lone Wanderer is a good guy. The Lone Wanderer saves the Capital Wasteland by bringing pure water to the masses without putting the FEV in it, he/she blows up the Mobile Base Crawler and NOT the Citadel, he/she probably disarms the bomb in Megaton instead of destroying the town, and he/she helps to write a complete Wasteland Survival Guide. The Lone Wanderer is good. So he/she would have been hunted by Talon Company Mercs and not Regulators. So, if you don't even take the Lawbringer perk, Regulators never even show up in the game. So are the Regulators non-canon? Because, without being evil and without taking the Lawbringer perk, they don't exist. Does the Lone Wanderer by default take the Lawbringer perk just so the Regulators can exist in the game? Idk, it's just a thought. 71.171.112.74 05:29, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Where is it ever made canon that the Lone Wanderer is a good guy? ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 05:34, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Nothing is canon until FO4 is released. Pigeon Approved "Hail to the Pigeon!" 06:36, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

Whoa! Call Wikia, tell them to shut down the servers - we are out of business! :) --Theodorico (talk) 08:16, January 15, 2013 (UTC)

I just mean that from my point of view, the Regulators feel like the Wild Wasteland trait. They don't ever show up unless you take the Lawbringer perk and/or are evil, just like the aliens don't show up in FO:NV if you don't take the Wild Wasteland perk. On the flip side, Talon Company is always in the game regardless of karma or perks. But again, this is just a thought I had, as we will probably never hear of Talon Company or Regulators again. As for the Lone Wanderer being good, he/she is. The Lone Wanderer brings pure water to the Capital Wasteland (whether he/she activated it or not), blows up the Mobile Base Crawler, and helps write the Wasteland Survival Guide. These are the actions of a hero, a good guy. However, that is not to say the Lone Wanderer was a saint. We can debate the side quests as much as you want, but as for the main questline he/she took the path of good. Just as the Vault Dweller was a good guy and the Chosen One was a good guy, the Lone Wanderer was also a good guy. The only one that is up for debate is the Courier. All the other Fallout games have canonically good endings. 71.171.112.74 03:10, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Regulators do show up without the perk. Lucas Simms is a regulator, and one can be found near the cemetery where you kill Junders. 67.187.96.246 03:18, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
The dead one at the cemetery only appears if you have the perk. However, where is it stated that the Lone Wanderer must be a good guy, or girl (we need a female main character already). Having the Lone Wanderer be a villain, maybe even a villain appearing later could be an interesting twist. Oh yeah, also it was Interplay that made the main characters all good. You can't use Interplay's actions as evidence of what Bethesda will do. Paladin117>>iff bored; 03:20, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
I could have sworn that regulator still showed up, just without the note on him if you didn't have the perk. As for the Interplay comment, that's not true. Interplay made the main character for Fallout 1 a bad guy as the Wasteland Stranger, whom you have to fight in the Los arena. 67.187.96.246 03:28, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
While odd, it appears the Wasteland Stranger you fight is not the Vault Dweller, although it is odd that they share the same nickname and has almost the same model. Paladin117>>iff bored; 03:35, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
It has been confirmed that after the Vault Dweller left Arroyo, he came across Carbon and settled there, even helping the Initiate, who can find the Wasteland Stranger's Vault 13 flask in the mill at Carbon. 67.187.96.246 03:47, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

( Well, first off, it's not confirmed because Brotherhood of Steel is non-canon. Secondly, what I was saying is even in BoS, the Wasteland Stranger you fight in Los is different than the one you meet in the rest of the game. Paladin117>>iff bored; 03:50, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Canon has nothing to do with information being confirmed. What matters in this case is that Interplay did indeed make one of their original protagonists a bad guy whom you can kill. And no, he isn't. Both in Carbon and in Los he used the exact same character sprite, and even his concept art that was released by Interplay shares the exact same likeness and was labeled as being the Vault Dweller in his older years. 67.187.96.246 03:52, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Canon is more about the world than the one character played. Yes there were enough choices to offend some players who did not choose the same path as the one that was picked to be the "official" canon.

  • There is no way to please everyone.

First of all, you wouldn't know Lucas Simms is a Regulator without the Regulators telling you, as no one in Megaton mentions it. You'd just think he's a sheriff, like the (dead) sheriff in Primm. And don't say he is a Regulator because of his outfit either, cus by that logic Vance is also a Regulator. Secondly, FO:BOS is not only a shitty game, but also non-canon and therefore does not count for anything. 71.171.112.74 04:22, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

It has been confirmed by the developers that Lucas Simms was a member of the Regulators. It is also stated in the official Fallout 3 game guide that Lucas Simms is a Regulator. And yes, BoS does count as a legitimate game. It might not be necessarily canon, but Interplay still made one of their protagonists a bad guy. Whether canon or not doesn't even matter.
P.S. - Vance doesn't wear a Regulator outfit. He wears a longcoat. As for the sheriff in Primm, that was just a bad cameo appearance made by Obsidian. Even the badge still says Megaton on it. 67.187.96.246 04:26, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
  • I do not actually disagree with any thing the anon above said.. But I never heard any Regulator mention Lucas Simms by name or even hint that there might be a Regulator in Megaton. If anyone has a quote to back this up I would love to read it.

    • Well, if you're interested, and like I mentioned, it is easiest to find within the official Fallout 3 game guide. It specifies that Lucas Simms was an ex member of the Regulators before settling in Megaton to try and bring peace to the town. 67.187.96.246 04:41, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
    • Oops, I read your comment wrong. Yeah, I have to agree with you, because I don't remember the Regulators ever actually mentioning Lucas Simms or his involvement in Megaton. 67.187.96.246 04:42, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. We agree 67.187.96.246 I have an FO3 game guide that I bought as a collectible but to keep it in original condition I never read it.

Okay fine, maybe the Regulators are canon or official or whatever. I just felt it was weird you could go through the entire game and never see one, while Talon Company Mercs are all over the place. I feel like the only reason they made the Regulators was to balance between good PCs and evil PCs, otherwise evil PCs would have no one hunting them and that wouldn't be fair to good PCs. But like I said before, it was just a thought. I wasn't trying to claim the Regulators weren't real or something. They most likely won't be mentioned in any future games anyway. 71.171.112.74 05:00, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Not trying to bust your balls or anything. I'm just very passionate about the series, and I'm big on the lore and factions involved. :) 67.187.96.246 05:03, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
I still stand by my opinion of FO:BOS though. To me, it is non-canon and therefore irrelevant to the Fallout universe since it never really happened. Which, in my book, is a good thing since it was a very bad game. I think we can at least agree on that last part lol. 71.171.112.74 05:10, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you. BoS is the only Fallout game to date that I cannot play all the way through. (Although, believe it or not, BoS is more lore friendly than Fallout 2 and Fallout 3.) 67.187.96.246 05:20, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

Not liking a faction or game choices dose not make them non canon. The Game designers must choose a path in order for there to be a linear history.

  • Try thinking of it like this. In one universe your character did every thing just as you played them but in an alternate universe the Lone Wanderer did as the designers choose.

This way there is no right or wrong, just the way it is.

Ummm...I never said I didn't like the Regulators. 71.171.112.74 05:37, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

In Fallout 3 Regulators & Talon co. mercs exist. Fallout 3 is canon. Liking or disliking is irrelevant. We do not create the universe we just play in it.

I have no special fondness for the Regulators. They are just the other side of the coin from the Talon Company. This is evident as listed in the Talon company ID codes there is an Unused regulator complete with regulator bounty orders {0007e952} He will be listed as Talon company but act and be equipped as a Regulator. They were there designed as competing equal factions. Law vs Chaos. Honor vs Profit. Like it or not, they are canon.

SaintPain TinySaintPainThat was broke afore I got here." 05:57, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

I'd have to argue that point. Hardly anything about Fallout 3 has been counted as canon yet. We still have to wait for the developers to confirm what is canon or not. 67.187.96.246 05:59, January 17, 2013 (UTC)
That's kind of my point. I was merely wondering if anyone else thought that maybe, MAYBE the Regulators would be considered non-canon via a future Fallout game, since they played very little role in Fallout 3 other than to be the counter to Talon Company. But in all likelihood, neither will probably be mentioned. 71.171.112.74 06:13, January 17, 2013 (UTC)

How major or minor their role they are a DC faction at the very least.
