Hm, well, before making a vote, it is best for me to make my saying about character categories.

As you see, we have Category:Ghoul characters, Category:Human characters and Category:Super mutant characters. What I am offering is to make some specific categories, (example: Category:Fallout 3 human characters instead of just Category:Human characters).

The new categories would ensure which person (under race category) appeared in which game. Having Human characters category in an article is a bit abstract, as there are nearly 3000 articles under Human category. Placing a game in which appeared in (Category:Fallout 3 human characters) would make certain in which game and which race the person is.
Here is a list of the categories that should be changed:
Super mutant characters
Human characters
Ghoul characters

Deathclaw characters
Robot characters

Leave any comment or suggest categorization changes.

Especially that Human characters category is rather crowded isn't it? As far as I'm concerned it's a go. Wait a bit for some more community input but if it's generally positive you can ask Ghost or Theodorico to do the botwork. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:20, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Deathclaw characters category is too small to be split I think and can stay as it is. The rest is ok to be split.
Not the robot characters category. Is already separated into subcategories, splitting them more per game is unnecessary and would scatter it too much.
Then it is settled - Ghoul, Human and Super mutant categories need to be changed. Others don't have much conent or have sub-categories. Energy X 17:19, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

( Sounds good to me. --Skire (talk) 16:48, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

I must agree, I think it's a great idea to thin out some of those categories. --3 of Clubs "This is my road, you'll walk it as I say" 17:00, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Can you specify exact list of new categories, please? Because i think, that we should avoid splitting down to the DLCs level. --Theodorico (talk) 20:47, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Don't think a split to the DLC is needed. Those can be added to the base game category. This is the list for now.
I like this idea a lot, and I think that you guys have covered it pretty well. It's good for everyone, since it organises mixed up characters per game in which they are displayed, and it feels better for the person who's searching the category, since there's going to be less characters in each page, and they're going to be specified. Great idea.
And I agree that the DLCs don't need their own categories. They don't have enough of these characters to earn separate categories. --C'n-Frankie -ArroyoTalk 22:24, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

J, I think you are forgetting Fallout and Fallout 2 as-well need to be completed. --3 of Clubs "This is my road, you'll walk it as I say" 21:28, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Got that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:29, August 23, 2012 (UTC)
  • I know, that everyone hates BOS, but shouldn't we include it, for the sake of completion?
  • Super mutant characters has 62 pages, do we want to scatter them across 6-7 categories? --Theodorico (talk) 22:07, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

You can add FOBOS too. And the super mutant category can be split. Think it's worth it. We have so many category with less than 10 entries. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:12, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

What about Van Buren? Energy X 07:22, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah! What about every item in Template:Games?  :) --Theodorico (talk) 14:16, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
Those too of course. The characters in Category:Human characters need to be spread out through the game specific human categories and the human category eventually should end up empty. Same thing with ghouls and super mutants. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:36, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

That's what we'll get, if we'll go by Template:Games:

Supa-Muties (without Nigthkinies):
F02: 1 pages # Yes! Someone wrote FO2 as ef-zero-two
FB: 2 pages
FNV: 6 pages

FO3: 34 pages
FO3BS: 13 pages
FO3PL: 2 pages
FOBOS: 5 pages
FOT: 16 pages
PA: 1 pages
VB: 20 pages

No humans, because 3K pages not a walk in the park even for a bot. And don't take this too literally, it's just an instant-hack and serves only for illustration. (

Super mutants

  • Who's the F02 super mutant? You can add that one to FO2.
  • FB can join with FO1 or FO2
  • 2 FNV dlc pages can join with FNV; no separate dlc super mutant character cat.
  • 1 FO3 dlc page can join with FO3; no separate dlc super mutant character cat.
  • FOBOS1/2 can be joined in one category.
  • FOX, just one then

Ghouls

  • 2 FB pages can join with FO1 or FO2
  • 9 FNV dlc pages can join with FNV; no separate dlc ghoul character cat.
  • 20 FNV dlc pages can join with FO3; no separate dlc ghoul character cat.
  • PA, just one then.

Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:35, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

Maybe, we can merge FB+AR+PA into the "Fallout publications human/ghoul/super mutant characters"? --Theodorico (talk) 21:09, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

Same list with DLC's merged with theirs base games; FOBOS'es merged in one category; FB ignored and F02 fixed to FO2:

--Theodorico (talk) 17:28, August 25, 2012 (UTC)

You can merge FB, AR and PA into Fallout publications category and this new overview looks good. I think Broken Steel as a DLC can have its own ghoul character category, 13 entries warrants that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:02, August 25, 2012 (UTC)

Counting everything what have been said:

"Category:Fallout publications ghoul characters" - 3 page(s)

Not bad, to my likings, except of FOX with 1 page. As for the humans. i think that we should categorize them in 2 passes. First pass with only the most assured categories and ignoring everything else, as this will reduce base category to few hundreds of pages and allow me to make an overview of what was left. Then we can figure out how to categorize leftovers with the real numbers at our hands. For the first pass i suggest "FO1/FO2/FO3/FNV human characters", with no grouping whatsoever. --Theodorico (talk) 16:38, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, looks fine to me. Can first you make a trial run of a few pages so I can see what happens? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:09, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Sure i can, but aren't we supposed to do voting first? Anyway i'll do some tests in my sandbox. --Theodorico (talk) 19:10, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

I don't feel a vote is necessary. It's not really a policy change, more an administrative matter with some good feedback already. I see if I can a little more input though. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:30, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
I think you guys have nailed this pretty good. I'm ok with the changes. Just don't burn out the bot:P The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:53, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
I agree, if a category is overcrowded then it simply stops serving its purpose. Don't see why bother with a vote either, as this shouldn't affect the community really. Thumbs up for me. Limmiegirl Lildeneb Talk! ♪ 20:55, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
This seems good enough to go on without a vote. You guys did a great job in doing this. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2012 - BSHU Graduate 21:51, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

(I reckon we really don't need to vote on adding a few categories, do we? That'd be a real pain in the ass when a new game comes out. *Hm. I need a new weapon category for this new game. Off to the forums!* The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:56, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree with this and we shouldn't need a vote. The only part I find questionable is the Fallout Extreme super mutant characters category having only one page. That however might be unavoidable, especially for a cancelled game. Paladin117>>iff bored; 22:25, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

Eh, Often times I feel like we have too many categories, however. I think all of these changes look well thought out. I'm okay with this:) The human and ghoul categories were too large anyway. This will make it seem like less bulk.--Bunny2Bubble 00:14, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Needs ref and Id to flesh them out. If you want individuals they need IDs.

Conclusion

I have created the categories and (to prevent boosting and there are WAY too many pages for one person to handle) will have my bot work on everything tomorrow. I'm going to sleep. ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 06:28, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry my English fails me (constantly), so can you please explain to me what kind of "boosting" you are going to prevent? --Theodorico (talk) 15:48, August 27, 2012 (UTC)
Hey Toci thanks for the offer, but I think Theodorico can do this whole process by himself and do the botwork with his bot. We don't need 2 bots doing this. And Toci's talking about adding categories which is in the achievement tracks (you know those badges that pop up in the right corner of your screen every once in a while). In fact he just made use of the opportunity to get some category achievement edits himself :) He already added all the newly planned categories (like Category:Fallout 3 human characters etc. we've been discussing here to avoid redlnked categories when the bot goes to work.
