I am often overweight and i am wondering if there is anyway of being able to carry more without cheating and i have 7 strength please help Paperbagguy3 12:09, November 1, 2009 (UTC)

Strong Back perk, or increase your strength using Beer, Power armor, or Intense Training. Also, hire followers to carry your loot. 76.94.225.90

You should also reduce your standard loadout to the minimum... with good comabt armour it is possible to get out of the door weighing less than 100 and still be heavily armed for anything! Gunner Bill 17:44, November 8, 2009 (UTC)

I learned this one really fast: don't take more than 3 or 4 weapons out into the Wastes with you. Weight adds up fast, especially if you're a heavy weapons grunt who likes to carry a Missile launcher, Fat Man, minigun and tons of grenades. Take the weapons you use best, and which you have the most ammo for at the moment. Get perks that increase your strength, or use booze or Buffout if you really need to get home carrying half of D.C. on your back. My toon can carry about 240 pounds; I use heavy armor and a few heavy weapons, so I'm always carrying about 160-180 pounds on me always, even stripped down to essentials. If all else fails, pull the ol' quick travel technique:

  • Take EVERYTHING you want from an area and lug it to the door.
  • Zone and drop enough to reduce your encumbrance to under maximum.
  • Fast-travel back home and store everything you collected in your home.
  • Fast-travel back to that spot and pick up the rest of the stuff.
  • Rinse, lather, repeat as necessary.

  • * In regard to "lug it to the door", the easiest way to do this is to grab a body or body part from a dead enemy (I prefer severed head, but anything will work) and use it as a container for everything in the area. Then just leave it near the door. So long as you come back before 3 days are up, it'll still be there, full of all the stuff. And it doesn't get any harder to move regardless of what you put in it. (Also, WTF "toon"? Seriously? How hard is it to type "character" or even "PC"? Kids these days...) 67.122.20.57

It's a good idea to have lots of different weapons, so you're not so reliant on one particular ammo type. However, you should prioritize your expenditure as well as functionality -- indoors or outdoors, short-range or long-range. This is why having an easily accessible locker is vital to the game. I tend to use the unbreakable weapons from "Operation Anchorage" -- shotgun and sniper. However, I also carry other weapons as warranted. If I'm going to be someplace that simply will not have repairs available (Dunwich building, for example), then I pick one weapon and take a couple of "repairs" with me (copies in poor condition). If you have Broken Steel, don't ever put down the Alien Blaster. That thing works wonders when you have 2 or 3 Overlords bearing down on you. Alien epoxy works excellent, but even Crow can make the thing usable.Pinkynperky04 18:52, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

What I like to do is carry a primary weapon, like chinese assault rifle or other all purpose weapon. Then, a sidearm, like a sniper or something accurate. Then, a couple high-power explosives, and a couple drugs for the tough fights. Also, If you're trying to conserve space, don't use the rock-it launcher, as the ammo still weighs down on you after you load it up. --Toast 21:40, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

A sniper makes one hell of a side arm. Ishotamaninnewreno 03:03, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

Well, you know what I mean. An accurate thing, to balance the fast-firing thing. Plus, it's not too heavy. I also forgot to include a melee or hand-to-hand weapon. --Toast 19:47, November 14, 2009 (UTC)

Vampire's Edge makes for an exellent weapon when enemies get too close. It has 1 wt, meaning that it is incredibly light. It has a good attack rate, and decent damage. The problem with it is that it has to be repaired with Chinese Officer's Swords, meaning that it can be hard to keep in good condition. It also requires a very high sneak OR 75 lockpick to obtain.--Hollow Points 20:58, November 14, 2009 (UTC)Hollow Points

My character can only lug about 180 pounds of equipment. I tend to bring two weapons: 'Ol Painless or Lincoln's Repeater as my main, and Colonel Autumns' Pistol as a side arm for low level encounters. With some nice Combat Armour (I use Reily's) you can generally get out of the door with about 50 pounds of equipment. I'm also one of those people that repairs the hell out of shit and never accepts overencomberment. This method has also allowed me to allot more points to other stats other than Strength. This method of repairing the crap out of everything and taking as little into an area as possible and taking as much out as I can has made me over 20,000 caps just before LV 20.
