Ah, it seems that Wikia has made a new feature called Maps. In short, one needs to upload an image and pin to that image a short description. Naturally, the images must be *huge* to have the best result.

Anyway, I believe this might be a good feature. In future, we don't need to edit the image in photoshop or similar programs, when we can just pin it in. Besides, the knowledge of coding the maps the old way may be lost to us...

What do you think, should these new maps be included here? Energy X 17:32, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

I am adding this feature today. Please see my latest forum, where I will be writing a guide on how to use them, and their possible applications. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:36, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
Yep, we can do that. We just turn it on in the WikiFeatures. As far as I know now, the maps need to be created on maps.fandom.com and then we ask Wikia to move such a map to our wiki. I don't expect it to be used much though, as someone (me probably) would need to spend a lot of time on a map, as it needs a lot of quality and TLC. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:37, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
It is going to be amazing for blog-use. I know when I start up my P&P idea again, these maps are going to help tremendously. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:38, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
Well, this work can be given to those that don't have any work currently here (like me), then have it reviewed by others. Energy X 17:39, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

What could it possibly be used for? I don't see how it could have that much use. Leea (talk) 17:53, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Not very imaginative. :P A great example would be in that we could have a map article that covers each location in a game. You click on the locations, and it sends you to their respective articles. Would be an incredibly easy system for finding location articles (not to mention we can add other waypoints, such as for unique weapons, which would allow our viewers to figure out easily where all unique weapons are). You are saying you have not used this? Not even once? Energy X 18:04, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
Nope - not very good quality. The new system is much better, in my opinion. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 18:11, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Actually, I asked Leea. But yes, the coding seems quite confusing, especially when you need to fix errors. Energy X 18:12, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

No kidding. I remember a little over a year ago, I started adding pages for my P&P, and I tried using image mapping. Finding coordinates for 50+ pages is not fun. This new system is laughably simple compared to image mapping. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 18:15, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Will there be a need to vote to enable this feature? Energy X 20:32, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

It has already been enabled. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:32, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
It wasn't enabled. I just now did. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:41, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
Well, I'm off to do some cartographing. I'll leave Fallout 3 and NV to someone who really has time, considering there are hunderds of locations. Energy X 20:45, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

It took me about half an hour, but managed to make FO2 map. See here and give feedback. The only glitch I report is that Navarro, toxic caves and Klamath images do not display. Energy X 23:14, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Not bad at all - I have a map uploaded myself, and am going to have fun messing around with it after dinner. :D ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:15, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Paladin117 managed to discover the code, how to insert it in articles. <imap map-id=XYZ /> is the code, with XYZ the number of the map that was made. Energy X 00:07, July 26, 2014 (UTC)

So has anybody got an idea of how Fo3/NV maps are going to be done? I mean, I assume for the World map, just use the 2048x2048 map texture? What about local maps? Do we just continue using Pip boy screenshots, or maybe the console command to dump the tiles themselves, and use those? I've been playing around with map ideas for those two games, so I'd be willing to help if needed. I'm just curious as to what you guys think would work best. Digital Utopia (talk) 10:14, July 27, 2014 (UTC)

Hm, I think these maps should be applied only to the world maps, not local ones, considering the time needed and there are already many present. Energy X 10:18, July 27, 2014 (UTC)

True - it would be a bit overkill - especially for those one-room buildings. On the subject of the world map however, from glancing at their examples, and of course your maps - it seems like a 2048px map would be way too small to do this format justice. Outside of the confines of a Pip Boy's resolution, of course. Digital Utopia (talk) 10:34, July 27, 2014 (UTC)

I still have a ways to go on this, but I think I've made enough progress to get the idea across. Currently it covers cells -16,16 to 16,-16, and full size dimensions are 7029x7029. I figure this would work better with zooming, and would be generally more helpful than the Pip-Boy world map. But that's just my opinion of course. What do you guys think? Digital Utopia (talk) 04:12, July 28, 2014 (UTC)

Well, New Vegas map is done - unfortunately, I can't use it. Guess I'll just use it for a Google Map instead. /shrug Digital Utopia (talk) 11:30, July 30, 2014 (UTC)
