It doesn't ask you to take a sip, it tells you "YOU take a sip out of your..." in other words, it's automatic. I've not tried Hardcore mode yet, but it looks like the canteen just being in your inventory means free water! You might never have to worry about dehydration. I don't know for sure, though. -Drk Angel

You don't equip it, it's automatic. As far as I can tell, it has infinite water and it just replenishes some of your H2O once in a while. I'm playing in hardcore mode, so I'm not sure if it's different on regular mode. Glomulus 03:07, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, i figured it out after awhile. It just puts off dehydration. Very useful, and just so you know hardcore isn't as bad as it sounds. You just have to be careful in a big fight --XvLIGHTNINGvx 06:08, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
