Gosh, this was such a long time ago that I have a hard time remembering this .... but basically, get to overseer's office and use his terminal to unlock the vault door. Then using the pip-boy's map (local maps), get to the vault door ... there will be lots of people chasing after you but get to the door as fast as you can (just don't stay and get into fights) and open it ... the vault security personnel won't come after you through the vault door since they are very scared of the Wasteland! |

| + | i had te same problem. okay go to the atrium , upstairs and fine the doorway next to the window with the guy banging and screaming nad passs thruogh the doorway, thenfind the exit of the room and find the room where you hear talking and go inside , talk to mr. overseer and be rude to him, kill him and take ihis key and password to his terminal and room. find another room with jonas's dead body (search him for a note from daddy) then find the door that says staff acsess only or soemthing like that then go to the termional inside and unclock the tunnel then go into it and find the door, open it and get outta that hellhole. good luck with the deathclaws! ;D |

Ok, So I'm an older player and a little slower, but I can't seem to navigate
out of the vault without being killed. I know i should learn how to use the pipboy
and maps better.

Once you're out of the vault: Enjoy your freedom, breathe in the fresh (!) air and head right over to Megaton where you will find friendly folks ... start your first quests by talking to Moira, level up ... and then help me with the Reilly's Rangers quest :)
