I must have made about 10 different characters now, as I keep messing up their builds and have to restart.

What about the following build to start off with? It would eventually turn into the second build shown in this post, and I'll explain how below. Spent the past hour working it out, and I think it seems fairly decent, but wasn't sure what others thought.

Starting Build:

  • Strength - 5
  • Perception - 5
  • Endurance - 5
  • Charisma - 5
  • Intelligence - 10
  • Agility - 5
  • Luck - 5

Ending Build:

  • Strength - 8
  • Perception - 6
  • Endurance - 6
  • Charisma - 5
  • Intelligence - 10
  • Agility - 10
  • Luck - 10

How I'd get from the first to the second build is as follows:

I'd have 5 implants available to me, due to the 5 Endurance, therefore I'd implant the following 5 attributes: Strength, Perception, Agility, Luck & Endurance. That would take them to from 5 to 6. I'd then max out the 'Intense Training' Perk, and put: 2 points into Strength (taking it to 8), 4 points into Agility (taking it to 10) & 4 points into Luck (taking it to 10).

I'd then have a decent all round build which also has some high level attributes & nothing really lacking so much that it's going to cause me major problems on my travels (low Endurance for example). I'd also have my Strength at the perfect amount so that I could use all rifles/handguns proficiently. Perception at 6 would allow me to take the increased criticals perk & the rest speaks for itself really.

Now the only problem with this is that if I were to Max out the 'Intense Training' perk, that means I'm very much limiting myself to what other perks I could take, but won't be able to due to having limited points left to spend.

So I'm contemplating it at the moment, but would appreciate hearing what you guys' thoughts/opinions on it are.

Thanks.

I despise the Intense Training Perk. I recommend avoiding it unless you really need to meet a perk requirement. There are much more potent, game-changing perks out there. Your SPECIAL is largely insignificant except for Intelligence and, to a certain extent, Strength. Please, take ANYTHING but Intense Training. I beg you. Schneidend 00:58, November 3, 2010 (UTC)

I'd rather go with a higher endurance and get more implants and if you max intel from the start you can't get the intel implant. That is the mistake I made, maxing out before getting implants (though it is ok to do with endurance since you get more implants that way, increasing it with the implant won't give you an extra implant). Not to mention having high END is just great to have for obvious reasons. Personally I would rather have one more STR so that once power armor is obtained it is maxed, but that is because I pick up nearly everything and carry about 10 guns at a time. PER I find pretty much... entirely useless, I only had 2 in my build, but if you think the one perk is worth it then that's your call.

I'm still playing through the game so I am unaware if there are items you can keep on your person to raise luck or any other stats more than temporarily (by this I don't mean clothing) so that could change my future builds. --pongsifu Nov 2, 2010

It's hard to comment on your stats when you don't inform of what type of weapons you are going for. Judging from high agi and high luck i would assume you are going for guns though. My advice is doing 5-5-5-1-6-9-9 to 6-6-5-1-6-10-10 with implants. charisma is useless unless you want to rely on companions to do the dirty work. Like the above poster said you should try and avoid the intense training perk since just about any other perk is better. It also looks like you put 2 points into strength to get the Anti-Materiel Rifle , but i would rather go Weapon Handling & Strong Back since you get more net profit than going for 2x intense training into strength. --EscapeArtist 09:07, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
