I've been playing Far Harbor nearly non-stop since it's release, and I've noticed quite a few mysterious things that I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed or figured out.

  • First being, oil spill fires in the water near ship wrecks. One example, and seemingly the biggest of them, is directly next to the Vim! factory, and another is between there and Cranberry Island. I haven't seen any terminal entries or notes relating to them, or any kind of explanation to what happened, how to put out the fire, etc, just nothing. I find that strange. Typically there's at least a note of sorts explaining things like this.

  • I also noticed that there's quite a few notes laying around in Far Harbor that seem to lead to something yet don't start a quest or anything. For example there's one in Captain Avery's room, called "Old Note". I believe it was addressed to a "Olympia", yet I haven't seen any NPC by that name before. There was also one in Allen's shop, in Teddy's shop, and one next to Small Bertha.
  • I'm not sure if this holds any meaning, but something I noticed and found odd was that almost every smaller island off of the main one has a certain item "set" next to it. A life preserver with a brahmin skull in the center of it. I just thought it was really weird to see that all over the place with, again, no explanation of any kind.
  • Another thing I'm also wondering about is the infamous Ol' Peg. I heard loads about it before the Far Harbor DLC, and the main theories pointed to the ghoul whale being added in Far Harbor, yet everything has been dead since the release. I know it hasn't been out very long, but I would have expected to see people talking about such a popular theory. I personally was disappointed to not find a single thing pointing to it. It especially bothers me not to find anything about Ol' Peg with the countless amount of whale-like skeletons and dolphin-like bodies laying around just about everywhere.
  • And another older mystery still lingering into Far Harbor is the boueys and if activating them actually does anything more than make a noise to attract enemies.
  • Additionally, there is no explanation to the mystery of where the fog came from, how it started, what it is exactly, etc, as far as I have seen.
  • Kasumi's dream holotape may point to her having been abducted by aliens? May not be a mystery, but certainly may lead to more alien related content as a possibility.
  • Halloween posters that seem like there should be a location and/or be unique armor/clothing, in my opinion.

Freddy Fear's

So, I'm just hoping for some more thoughts, and maybe answers. I wasn't sure where to post about all this. Kimiix17 (talk) 01:03, May 22, 2016 (UTC)

Answers (maybe)....

  • Oil fires are simply caused by oil leaking from the crashed ships... usually more recent ones are still burning as older ones fires have long ago burnt out, and it's mentioned many times that lotsa ships have crashed due to the fog and the lighthouses aren't working (I am surprised there isn't a quest to restart all the lighthouses).
  • I think I know what the notes mean but it's a major spoiler if you haven't finished the DLC and found out certain information (why doesn't this wiki have spoiler tags?).
  • The brahmin skull in the the life preserve is also in some of the trapper locations.... I think it's supposedly their equivalent of tagging a loccation.
  • Ol' Peg may just be a sailors story or it may be out there somewhere or it may be planned for future updates.
  • The buoeys are just that, considering it's an island with shallow rocks and reefs - they usually indicate the water depth is lower at those points (though as you say, can be used to attract the monsters).
  • The Fog is still a mystery and maybe future updates will add more information and some more quests.
  • I think her dream is just supposed to represent her not feeling lie she fits in and thinking she was abducted, at least until she came up with the idea that she's a synth.
  • Halloween seems a recurring theme in the main game too... possibly it was close to Halloween when the bombs fell so there's lots of Halloween decorations around that were just left up.

According to Longfellow it getting worse isn't anything new and it's happened before in the Islands past.--Vespidv (talk) 03:54, May 22, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah that's true, he did say that all of this, with the fog getting worse, has happened again, and that "history repeats itself", but I think what caused it is still a good mystery that they should have elaborated on. I had read here on the wiki that DiMA caused the fog, but it's since been changed and I think someone just took something he said the wrong way because there's no evidence he did it, and it seems it was already there when he arrived. So I suppose another mystery is still where the fog came from, I'll add that into the list haha. So many things left unexplained, it just doesn't feel right. With all this unexplained stuff I feel like I'm missing something in the game. Kimiix17 (talk) 16:44, May 22, 2016 (UTC)

Something that was interesting to me was Kasumi's dream holotape, as someone who loves reading UFO stories and such it was eerily similar to an alien abduction story. So coupled(and that she doesn't have synth parts and was messing with a radio during all that.) with all the Zetan tooltips in the loading screens was making me wonder if it's meant to be a hint at another Alien DLC.--Vespidv (talk) 03:52, May 22, 2016 (UTC)

I think I must have missed that holotape of hers! I'm going to have to go find it now, that sounds like a very likely thing for them to do as hints. But at the same time, with the rumors of the next DLC being "Nuka World" I'm rather interested in why there's no hints to that one. If you don't know about it, I guess someone found game files for 3 DLCs, named "Nuka World" "Workshop 2" and "Workshop 3", the workshops aren't surprising at all, but if they were going to do a Nuka World I would have expected some hints to be dropped, like there may be for Aliens, but then again everyone took the Ghoul Whale as a hint, but that wasn't even included in Far Harbor as far as I can tell. Kimiix17 (talk) 16:44, May 22, 2016 (UTC)
Nuka World might be related to that random sphere some guy found underwater if I remember right it turned out to be a Nuka Cola building piece.
In my opinion, that sphere thing seemed like a theory that was grasping at straws. It wasn't actually a piece of a building, it was a Nuka Cola Cherry advertisement that you see on billboards except it was on a water tower looking thing that was connected to pipes. I never completely dismiss anything, but I just don't really see that as being a hint per say. But then again I actually never even heard about it until now and just watched the video etc on it, so maybe I don't know enough about the theory. Kimiix17 (talk) 18:57, May 23, 2016 (UTC)
I agree actually, just that considering a lot of people made a big deal out of an inconsequential Nuka Cola ad might've given them the idea to make a Nuka Cola themed dlc, though at this point I'm still wondering if it'll be something akin to Far Harbor or if it's a workshop mod adding a bunch of Nuka Cola build objects.--Vespidv (talk) 20:21, May 26, 2016 (UTC)
That's a really good point too though, since they do take fan ideas and such into consideration, and I could see them making dlcs from something like that, which just makes me more angry that there's no ghoul whale hahah. I think it'll be more than just workshop items, seeing as it has it's own name without workshop in the title. At least, I hope it's not. Out of the ideas/speculations I've read so far, I realllyyy hope they add some kind of Nuka Cola theme park or something, personally I would find that to be an amazing addition to the game, especially since they seem to be trying to scare players already with the fog and creepy creatures haha an abandoned theme park would def suit that trend. I know Far Harbor is still really new, but I hope they release more DLC details soon for what else is coming in 2016, 'cause there's at least one more this year. If They do make a Nuka Cola DLC, It will be extremely small. I mean, There can't be that much around a Soda Company. The Reincarnation Of Akatosh (talk) 21:35, June 2, 2016 (UTC)
