While I nearly always explain my reverts (except for cases of blatant vandalism etc.), I often neglect to write an edit summary for non-revert edits, especially when the edit or edits are minor and not possibly controversial. Thank you for bringing this to my attention and I will try to write edit summaries after any edit I make. {{User:Skire/Sig}} 03:00, August 28, 2015 (UTC)

Forums: Index > Wiki discussion > Edit summary. Why is it there?

Hello people of Nukapedia. I feel it is my duty to bring this to everyone's attention as this will become a big deal as Fallout 4 is released and I see it already with Fallout Shelter. If you notice when you edit an article, forum or talk page you will notice something on the right. It is called an edit summary. This is there to provide a summary of what you, the editor just did. Back in the day most of us seasoned editors used this box religiously but now I hardly see it used at all. When I get an email saying a page I just edited was re-edited, in the email the edit summary will appear. However if you leave none, I get to stop and see what was done. On a mobile platform, that is not easily done. Also using the edit summary helps new editors learn from mistakes. A simple revert with no explanation of what was wrong will not help them learn. Simple. All I ask is with the coming of the new game, please start using the edit summary boxes. It takes no more that a few seconds to fill out. Thanks and happy editing.--KIngclyde
