So as you know Deathclaws are practically the toughest enemy to fight in Fallout 3, feel free to discuss the strategies you have discovered while playing in the world of Fallout 3. I'll start off with my own strategy.
Deathclaws can run pretty fast and jump even further as you have all discovered. Well I found a solution for this that works extremely well, if you have the Dart Gun schematics, make a Dart Gun as soon as possible. If you want to know, for those of you who don't know already, it's because the Dart Gun may have very low damage but it has very powerful abilities. The Dart Gun, with each shot will deal 1000 damage to not just one leg but both legs, automatically crippling almost every enemy. Of course this damage to legs doesn't exactly effect the health themselves, but it can be good for slowing them down. The Darts also have a poison effect but that doesn't do much to Deathclaws. With this slowed down enemy, when I didn't have that much ammo for my powerful weapons or I just didn't want to use them, when I shot them with a Dart, Fawkes would use his Gatling Laser, making quick work of them.
- I play a stealth character, as such I like to set up some traps for them. I lay out a few land mines between myself and the deathclaws then sneak attack some shots to face, they come running and BOOM! Should they survive I use VATS and a combat shotgun for the finisher.
