Hello, my fellow Nukapedians. I am Disgusting and I am running for chat moderator.

My user[]

I started editing in early 2016, contributing with minor sporadic edits. A year later, in March 2017 I started editing more coherently, and after some guidance from Sakaratte, I joined the settlement objects project and quickly got my hands full. Shortly after I was also promoted to patroller of the wiki on March 30th.

Activity in chat[]

I always keep the chat tab open when editing the wiki, and frequently check the conversation. I am generally present in chat several days, every week 14:00 - 24:00 UTC. I have gotten to know a lot of the people who are frequently active in chat, and feel that I know my way around.

I generally stay out of conversations between other users, often just loosely following them to get a general sense of the topic. This allows me to step in as a neutral part of the conversations if they get out of hand.

Edit count[]

There should have been a list of this user's edit counts here, but the edit counts feature is no longer available.

Endorsement[]

Because of Distusting's dedication to the chat and his continued activity in chat. He is a very good fit. Therefore he has my faith in a permanent status of chat mod. I hereby endorse this request. Jackiboy Logo (talk) 17:03, June 3, 2017 (UTC)

  2. Yes Distusting has always showed his best sides in chat, I have always had faith in him, and I know many have doubts in him. But from what I've seen he is chat mod material. And from what I see, he would make a great chat mod. Jackiboy Logo (talk) 17:36, June 4, 2017 (UTC)
  3. Yes 🃏 (talk) 18:00, June 4, 2017 (UTC)
  4. Yes I've seen enough of disgusting Distusting things. As promise, you've earned my trust. ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 16:42, June 7, 2017 (UTC)
  5. Yes Neutrality is good, as long as you know when it's necessary to step in and make sure people adhere to the rules. Rebel427 (talk) 03:28, June 9, 2017 (UTC)

No[]

  1. No I think I'd rather see a more active participant than a bystander. Agent c (talk) 19:53, June 3, 2017 (UTC)

Neutral[]

  1. Neutral - See comments Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 20:00, June 3, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Neutral I'm going to agree with Cassie here. Still, keep it up, DW. If ya get CM, cool, it just probably won't mean much. NomadMC (talk) 18:57, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

  5. Neutral I'll leave my rationale in the comments. Richie9999 (talk) 22:54, June 11, 2017 (UTC)
  6. Neutral I can't say I'm familiar enough with you to vote either yes or no. SSJ3 Rusticus (talk) 20:06, June 12, 2017 (UTC)
  7. Neutral I was absent for the past week or so due to vacation. It would be unfair of me to pass judgement on a user I'd barely been here to interact with. With that said, I'm not sure how I feel about someone so new to special rights being promptly promoted to this position, though that is a lesser issue. My larger concern is that in the week after I returned from a long hiatus, and was a regular presence in chat, I almost never saw distusting. I will very much need to evaluate this users activity in chat before I can conscientiously vote yes or no. ---bleep196- (talk) 21:54, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

Excluded votes[]

  1. Neutral - Edits are okay but barely active in chat. So far you only been given a temp mod once. We need to know you more before I can give my thoughts. ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 16:02, June 4, 2017 (UTC)
  2. Yes I've been in chat a lot lately and i think disgusting is the man for the job! --Vengarl's Hand 123 (talk) 16:52, June 7, 2017 (UTC)

Distusting is already aware that I would be abstaining on this one. He has certainly proven himself on the Wiki side and does make judgement calls, but I have yet to see enough in chat to say yes outright. As Agent c said, he is largely a bystander, which makes it hard to say he is able to handle judgement calls, but that can also be a good thing from a neutral handling standpoint. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 20:01, June 3, 2017 (UTC)

I think this may well be an issue that will come up a lot with this request. I've decided that the best way for us to see how he would do with these rights is to let him actually exercise them on a temp basis. I've granted them temp rights to last for two days and would appreciate it if all other mods/admins will let him take lead in chat while he's active. let's see what they can do. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 21:16, June 3, 2017 (UTC)

I don't see much of Distusting in chat, or at least not actively, and while a certain amount of that can be chalked up to the difference in time zones, the fact is that I cannot vote with confidence Yes without seeing that activity. If his activity that I normally see, which mostly trends towards silence most of the time is any indication of what he's always like then I'd probably vote no on this request. To me, a chat mod should be a part of the chat community not a silent observer there to look and only jump in when things have gone too far. A good chat mod can steer conversation away from areas that might cause trouble before it causes any issues.

I don't like that Distusting is running with part of his platform as it were, being "I generally stay out of conversations between other users, often just loosely following them to get a general sense of the topic. This allows me to step in as a neutral part of the conversations if they get out of hand. " Involvement in a conversation should not be something that is compromising a chat mod's neutrality, nor should it be something to be avoided.

If I had more overlap with DistustingWastelander's stated availability perhaps I could say for sure, yes or no. But, from the rationale used in this request and from what little I have seen that lack of substantial overlap is currently the only thing that is preventing a No vote. Extension[]

We're extending this request to allow time for more users to give their votes and feedback. I would ask that anyone who has voted neutral or not yet voted to please seek him out in chat when you can and make the effort to get to know him better so that you can make a better informed vote. i'd also ask that Distusting take those opportunities with other in chat to show who he is and how he handles himself. For the record, he has held temp rights for an extended period of time now. He has handled himself well for all accounts and has even racked up a few bans. Let's give this request the attention it deserves please, folks. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 01:24, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

We still ahave more neutrals than yesses. Only one no. i don't feel comfortable passing this, and I also don't feel comfortable failing it. The issue is that most people still don't know Distusting enough to vote yes or no. Let's fix that. We'll suspend the vote for one month. Allow him a chance to impact some of those neutrals. In the meantime, if we need a temp, let's make sure we give him a solid shot at proving himself to everyone. We'll run it for a week again in one month and the results of that will be binding. Someone remind me to open this back up in one month, please. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 22:21, June 13, 2017 (UTC)
