For the last couple of weeks, I have occaisionally loaded pages and in place of one of the top ads, a video has appeared. It usually starts with a random commercial, and then moves into a gameplay video of Fallout 3. The videos say that are from something called "5min", although I've also seen a "gameanyone" watermark on the videos. The video begins playing automatically, without user interaction, and has audio. Ads with audio are pretty much as obnoxious as it gets. I wondered whether anybody else was irritated by these, and whether anything can be done to repalce them with something less annoying, or at the very least, have the audio default to being muted. -- 67.149.197.71 22:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
If you have Mozilla Firefox, you can download the add-on Adblock Plus and it blocks all pop-ups and ads. Insane Survivor 21:27, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Sure, that's one of several things I can do to save myself the annoyance, but I was thinking more for other visitors to the wiki. Firefox has, what, 10% of the browser market share? And even among Firefox users, most probably aren't running adblock. So... the vast majority of visitors to this wiki are suffering through these audio ads. Isn't that... unacceptable? Don't those of you who work on this wiki want to do something about that? I'm not even a contributor and I was irritated enough to post about it. I would have thought that those of you who put your time and effort into the site would want it to not have obnoxious ads like that. --67.149.197.71 16:27, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the point is that we really can't do anything about it as we have no influence on the ads. They're inserted automatically and only wikia (the wiki's host) could do something about it. In addition, most of the editors probably didn't even notice them since they're not displayed for logged-in users (not saying that it's not an an issue, just explaining why none of the regulars noticed the audio ads). -- Porter21 (talk) 20:33, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
