I think the ammunition articles should be reorganized (*hides from Nitty's wrath). Currently, we have pages like 9mm, 9mm AP, 9mm Ball, 9mm JHP etc, each of which lists the respective ammo variant's stats in multiple games. In my opinion, that's a bit impractical - there's little to be gained from comparing the stats of 9mm ammo in FNV with the stats of 9mm ammo in FO2.

Instead, I think the ammo should be grouped by games:

  • 9mm
Lists all the variants with gameplay links for each (similar to other item overview pages)
  • 9mm (Fallout)
    • Stats of "9mm Ball"
  • 9mm (Fallout 2)
    • Stats of "9mm" and "9mm Ball"
  • 9mm (Fallout: New Vegas)
    • Stats of 9mm ammo
  • 9mm (Fallout Tactics)
    • Stats of 9mm AP, 9mm Ball, 9mm JHP
  • 9mm (Van Buren)
    • Stats of 9mm ammo
(On a sidenote, the page currently lists FOBOS as having 9mm ammo - as far as I know, all Small Guns in FOBOS use an ammo called "Small Bullet", so I don't think that should be there)

I could then modify the ammo infobox so you can list multiple variants in it (similar to how e.g. {{Perk}} works). I think that's more practical than the current setup since you can compare all variants of one ammo in a given game.

Thoughts? -- Porter21 (talk) 12:39, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

I already reorganized the .44 Magnum page just like weapon/armor articles. But maybe your solution (or a combination of the two) would work better... As for FOBOS, Small Bullet is the in-game inventory name for 9mm, while Large Bullet is .44 Magnum. Ausir(talk) 12:43, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
It's basically the same concept - the only difference is that the various types per game would be aggregated on one page, i.e. only ".44 Magnum (Fallout Tactics)" instead of ".44 Magnum AP (Fallout Tactics)", ".44 Magnum Ball (Fallout Tactics)" and ".44 Magnum JHP (Fallout Tactics)". The overview page would stay the same, only the link targets would change. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:01, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sounds reasonable. This way each per-game ammo page would also list all weapons using a given ammo type, without redundancy like there would be if they were split. Ausir(talk) 13:04, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, indeed. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:13, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
Is there an ingame source for the classification in FOBOS? I'm asking because I think "Small Bullet" and "Large Bullet" are simplified aggregations of various ammo types. For example, the Assault Rifle in FOBOS uses "Small Bullets" and the Heavy Machine Gun uses "Large Bullets", both of which don't seem like they would be using 9mm or .44 Magnum ammo respectively. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:01, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
I guess you're right. Anyway, this will take some time, considering that weapon and armor pages are not ready yet. Ausir(talk) 13:04, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
Granted. It simply came to my mind when I noticed the discussion you had with Nitty regarding ammo types. I'll make the necessary modifications to the ammo infobox, then it'll be ready whenever we get to it. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:13, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Updated {{Ammunition}} and changed a couple of ammo types to the new setup (.44 Magnum, 10mm, 2mm, Rocket). -- Porter21 (talk) 19:51, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
